Italy Invaded

In 1943, U.S. and British troops conquer the island of Sicily and begin to move towards the mainland of Italy. Mussolini runs toward Germany but is eventually captured and hanged. In 1944, Allied Powers capture Rome.

Postponed the invasion of France by about a year.

Atomic Bombs Dropped on Japan

In 1945, the U.S. drops an atomic bomb on Japan in two cities: Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Although this was retaliation for the attack on Pearl Harbor, the atomic bombs were used to send a message to the Soviet Union that the U.S. was technologically advanced.
