1066 Edward (king of England)

Cuased William of Normandy and the noble Harold to fight.

William of Normandy (French)

Beat Harold and known as "William the conqueror". Coantained the Doomsday book.

1154 Henry II

Expanded the common law and developed the jury system. Wanted to tax the church. Archbishop Thomas Beckett.

1202 King John

Lost war to king Philip II. He cuased all of England to be Excommunicated. Forced to sign the Magna Carta.

1179 Philip II (Augustus)

Paid middle class workers and took land from King John. He led a crusade against Muslims.

1226 Louis IX

He did not like heretics (people who were not catholic). He was a declared a saint. Sent people to look at locals. Ended private wars and serfdom (like slavery, very little pay).

1268 Philip IV

Tried to tax the church (clergy) and fought with the pope. He moved the papal house (pope house) to France. Two popes elected.

486 Clovis

Settled frank and were christians. They had Roman traditions. The first to unit all franks.

Charlemagne

Unites Germany, Italy and France. Pope Leo III asked him to fight the Muslims in Italy.

936 Otto I

Defeated the rebellious Roman nobles. He was crowned Holy Roman Emperor.

1054 Henry IV

Thought he was the overlord of bishops. He was excommunicated. He asks for forgiveness. He then attacks Rome and the pope flees. Concordat of worms was a comprise between the pope and him.

1194 Fredrick I & II

He tried to take northern Italy but failed. He married his son Constance from Sicily. Fredrick II tried to take Italy but failed.
