On reading a book on treatment of diseases , he fancied that he was suffering from every disease including Typhoid fever , St. Vitus dance , Bright's disease , Cholera, diphtheria , gout and zymosis except housemaid's knee.

Was he pleased to find he didn't have housemaid's disease?

He was not pleased to find that he did not have housemaid's knee. He was rather hurt. To him it seemed to be a sort of insult that he had been deprived of only one disease when he had all the other diseases in pharmacology .

What was his first reaction?

His first reaction was not pleasent. He was a bit sad and sorrowful for not having housemaid's knee.however , He got unselfish later and thought of doing without the disease.

Why should he be an aquisition to the medical class?

The writer thought that he should be an acquisition to the medical class as he was a hospital in himself. He had all the known diseases of pharmacology. Students could take their diploma by just walking around him.

Describe his visit to the medical man?

He went to his medical man and briefed him about his visit to the British museum, his reading about various diseases and his conclusion. The doctor examined him and wrote a prescription.

He thought he was doing the doctor good turn by going to him. Why?

The writer thought he was doing a good turn by going to his doctor because the doctor would get more practice out of him than out of his seveteen hundren ordinary patients with one or two disease each.

Describe his visit to the chemist?

He went to the nearest chemist who read the prescription and said that he did not run a cooperative store and family hotel combined. Therefore, he refused to help the writer.

What was the prescription given to him by the doctor?

The doctor had written the following on the prescription


" 1lb beefsteak every six hour , ten-miles walk every morning , bed at 11 sharp every night and don't stuff your head with the things you don't understand".

What is the signuficance of the doctor's advise?

The writer had the habit of reading about various diseases which always led him to the misconception that he suffered from them. This is besically wrong because only a doctor can diagnose a disease by acting upon doctor's advise gave him a long and happy life.
