Why is it important to let an engine run for 2 minutes with Ng below 90% before shutting down?

If you fail to cool the engine, it cannot be restarted for 2 hours. Failure to cool the engine can result in compressor thermal bow and significant engine damage. If for some reason you are unable to wait the 2 minutes, you can carry out Engine Fire after Shutdown and then restart the engine within 5 minutes, otherwise you must wait the 2 hours. Ref: caution 3 on card 22

With high VAM accretions (greater than 20mm) and RIPS in operation, increase in fuel consumption should be considered. What change in Tq%, attitude, and fuel consumption would you expect?

Tq: 15-25% increase

Attitude: 5 - 8 ° nose down

130-200 kg/hr increase

(Ref: limitations/pink card 30R)

Before turning on the RIPS, what configurations are acceptable wrt the electrical system?

Start the APU, select APU to Emerg, and keeps the AC busses CPLD.

Select AC busses to SPLIT, and consider selecting APU to Emerg in critical phases of flight. The AC can elect to not start the APU in order to conserve fuel during long transits.

Time limit for NF avoid bands?

25-39%: no time limit, must not be allowed to stabilise.

58-73%: 3 seconds.

When would you experience Loc deviations? What do you do?

Winds from the starboard side and a Yaw offset of ~13° from ILS loc path. Try adjusting speed to change the crab angle, disengage the APPR mode and fly manually, or initiate a missed approach.

What does the HMU do?

Fuel metering

Fuel pumping

Collective pitch compensation via LDS

Acceleration and deceleration control

Ng limiting

Variable geometry and bleed valve control

Manual override (bleed valve failed)

Vapour vent for fuel priming

What does the DECU do?

HMU trimming of fuel metering by:

Isochronous NF governing

TIT limiting

Torque load sharing

Collective/nr load anticipation (transient droop improvement)

Nf overspeed protection

Hot start prevention

Cockpit display signals (NF, TIT, tq)

Maximum closure rate (hover speed) to approach a boat after an OWTD?

Speed of boat + 10 kts (not exceeding 20 kts total if staying in Hover Mode)

(SMM)

PM duties: Hover - tolerance for deviation in pitch/roll/yaw/height/speed?

Pitch/yaw: 5

Roll: 10

Height: 10

Speed: 5

PM duties: Forward flight - tolerance for deviation in pitch/roll/yaw/height/speed?

Pitch/roll/yaw: 5

Height: 100

Speed: 10 kts

Define Land Immediately

Immediate danger exists. An immediate landing/ditching shall be made in order to prevent loss of life.

Define Land as soon as possible

Some danger exists. Land at the first site at which a SAFE landing can be made

Define Land as soon as practicable

Remote danger exists. Extended flight is not recommended. Land at a safe landing site selected for subsequent support.

Define Continue sortie

The landing site and duration of flight is at the discretion of the aircraft commander.

What equipment is required to conduct an OWTD?

1) bar or rad hold

2) 1 x rad alt

3) Hover page

4) Cyclic and Collective trim

5) 1 x search light (night ops only)

What are the minimums for an OWTD without wx radar or poor return?

Obstacle height + 100 ft @ 0.25 NM

Or

100 ft @ 1 nm

What are the minimums for a manual OWTD?

1) min speed 60 Kias until target is visual.

2) Use collective trim to gently descend below 200 ft

3) Aircraft must be stable and visual with the water at 200 ft before a descent to 100 ft is permitted.

4) if not visual with target at 100 ft and 0.5 NM, go around

When checking compasses on an IFR departure, the compasses must be +- ___ degrees from a known heading.

2 degrees

Yellow page: Hydraulic fumes in the cockpit: Why do you select the temp control knob to cold?

This changes the intake for the air from the top side of the aircraft (near a potential leak) to the bottom of the aircraft, preventing intake of fumes into the cabin.

When must RIPS be switched off (temp)?

Less than -30C
