Plot
Jonas becomes the new Receiver and has to carry the burden of holding all the memories of the community. He realizes that suffering, pain, joy, and sorrow should be shared among all the citizens. There are too many lies and secrets; Jonas realizes he has to somehow leave the community to discover the better world. So Jonas escapes the community with the help of the Giver.
Chapter One
Jonas starts to feel apprehensive about the upcoming ceremony. He shares this feeling with his family.
Chapter Two
Jonas' parents reassure Jonas about the Ceremony of Twelve.
Chapter Three
Jonas meets Gabriel, the newchild, and recollects a disturbing memory about an apple.
Chapter Four
Jonas volunteers at the House of Old, and hears about the releasing of Roberto, an elderly male.
Chapter Five
Jonas reports a dream during the dream telling about his friend, Fiona and the bathing room. He begins taking the Stirrings pills.

Chapter Thirteen
Jonas receives a disturbing memory about an elephant and realizes that all that has been told to him before, may be lies. He and the Giver discuss the the power to make choices and its pros/cons.
Chapter Fourteen
Jonas receives his first real painful memory and realizes that no one in the community other than the Receiver has experienced pain. He gives his first memory to newchild, Gabriel.
Chapter Fifteen
Jonas receives a memory about warfare.
Chapter Sixteen
Jonas receives a memory of love and realizes he and the Giver are the only ones that have feelings, like love.
Chapter Seventeen
An unscheduled holiday, Jonas' friends play a game of war, and Jonas realizes his friends knew nothing about the real world that pained only him.
Chapter Eighteen
Jonas learns about Rosemary, the Giver's daughter and the last, unsuccessful Receiver.
Chapter Nineteen
Jonas watches a release of a twin baby. He learns what release really is and what happened to Rosemary.
Chapter Twenty
Jonas and the Giver make a plan on how to escape the community.
Chapter Twenty-One
Jonas makes his escape early, though not how it was planned out. He escapes with Gabriel, saving him from being released. Search planes look for him, but he uses the memories to keep him and Gabriel hidden.
Chapter Twenty-Two
Jonas experiences hunger, pain, and he realizes that the only thing he can do now is try to save Gabriel.
Chapter Twenty-Three
Jonas starts to feel Elsewhere. He finds a sled on top of a hill and gets his hopes up. He's not sure but he feels the love and hears the music.

Significance of Snow
Snow is white and represents peace and the real world. It shows 2 sides, one of anger and destroying, another side of peace and unity.
Release
The killing of someone, using a drug and needle.
