Superficial pyoderma caused by Staph. aureus or Group A Strep.; superficial vesicles that rupture and form thick yellow crust; Tx. w/ oral and topical antbx & by keepin it clean.

Acute cutaneous inflammatory disease caused by beta hemolytic Strep; causes hot red edematous, sharply defined eruptions; Tx w/ systemic antbx and wet dressings.
Erysipelas
Caused by varicella virus infecton of 8th CN; vesicular eruptions along nerve dist, facial paralysis, hearing loss, vertigo, hoarsenss, dysphagia; Tx w/ antiviral meds & steroids
Herpes Zoster Oticus (Ramsay Hunt Syndrome)
Caused by water & trauma, pseudomonas, proteus, staph or strep; pruritis, otalgia, plugeed sensation, discharge, pain w/ movement of auricle or tragus, diffuse swollen canal; Tx w/ gentle cleansing of canal, antbx drops w/ steroid, wick and strict water precautions.
Otitis Externa (Swimmer's Ear)
Infection that has spread to soft tissue, mastoid bone or bone of skull; cellulitis & necrosis of canal w/ pain, CN involvement, not responding to previous Tx; Tx w/ systemic antibiotics, surgical debridement.
Malignant Otitis Externa
Fluctuant abscesses caused by infections of hair follicle; painful to palpation or by insertion of otoscope; Tx w/ topical and oral antbx, warm soaks.
Frunculosis
caused by Aspergillus; pruritis, ain, full senstation and presence of white, fluffy cotton-like material; Tx by evacuation of canal, dry ear precautions & Domboro solution
Fungal Ear Infection
inflammation of lining of canal; pruritis, flaking; Tx by removing offending agent, mild topical steroid.

pruritis, burning otalgia and bleeding, an infection that is not healing; Tx w/ surgical excision & radiation
Malignant Tumor of Auditory Canal - SCC
pain, prutitis, discharge, sensation of fullness, hearing loss, most commonly in pediatric patients; Tx w/ hook, loop, clamp or suction w/ sedation.
Foreign Body of Auditory Canal
excessive growth of fie hair on pinna or tragus due to meds, metabolic deficiencies, pegnany, malnutrition, or hyperthyroidism
Hypertrichosis Langinosa Aquista
hard, painful, flesh colored nodules composed of deposits of uric acid cyrstals, found on helix; Tx includes low purine diet and meds.
