Rachel- Benny walks in. He looks... well... I dont know how he looks. Sometimes I think, if I saw him today, i wouldn't even recognize him. |

Reality has a way of restoring memory. If you saw him again, it would be like no time had gone by. There's that moment of... recognition... that happens. It would feel like you'd just seen him yesterday. Okay. So you're in a coffee shop. Drinking a large triple chocolate- Okay, sorry I forgot. A medium ristretto non-fat cappuccino. And then in walks Benny. What happens? |

Rachel- Why he didn't... why I wasn't... just... why, you know? |
Okay, but you know that's not going to happen. You're not going to figure that out this way. |

Rachel- Why not? |
Because you can conjure Benny all you want. But Benny isn't here. You can spend the next ten years speculating over what happend, and why you weren't good enough, or what you could have done to make him care more about you, or make him want you, or make him think about you even once when you weren't sitting right in front of him. But you're never really going to be able to answer that question. And in that time you've taken out out of your life to try to figure it out, who knows how many other opportunities you've missed? Is Benny- is the memory of Benny- worth giving up the promise of that guy who's going to be what he wasnt. |

Rachel- Why is Benny so different? Why is he so hard to let go? |

Yes. I remember. You never felt that kind of pain before, the pain of giving something up because you couldn't make it yours. And you promised yourself that you'd never feel that kind of pain again. You were going to become- |

And you decided that you weren't going to think about him, talk about him, let yourself remember anything - good or bad - because it hurt to much. You closed yourself off to the possibility that you could find the one who could be everything Benny wouldn't. And you've been clinging to that, hanging onto him, ever since. |

Rachel- But I dont want to hang onto him. Not anymore. |
