An advisor to Pope Bonficae VIII, he was promised anticipatroy absoltion-- gorgiveness for a sin given prior to the perpetration of the sin iteself. He now suffers in Hell, since absolution cannot be gained without repentance and it is impossible to repent a sin before committing it. ( Canto 27) Fraudulent Advisors- encased in flames
Bertran de Born (I)
Carries his head in his hanf like a latern, is an example of Datean contrapasso. The figure holds his head up to the poets, so they can hear him better. The figure says he set the young king to mutiny against his own fath. He also states taht becuase he parted father and son he spends eternity with his head parted from his body. Friar Albergio (I)
Sinner conddemned to the 3rd ring of the 9th circle. He and Branca d'Oria are unlike the other sinner Dante encounters: their crimes were deemed to be so great that devils snatched their sould from their living bodies, thus, their sould reside in hell while their bodies live on, now guidedd and possed by demons. (Canto 33). Betrayers of guest- Held inice, heads bent backwards

A gentle father figure who directs Dante's signt to illustrious occupants of the rose, is assigned the role primarily for his special devotion to the Virgin Mary. he is a new guide for the final stage of the celestial voyage Dante expects it to be Beatrice instead of Bernard appears( celestial Rose)->(Empyrean)->( Bernard appears) (Canto 31-33)

Caccoaguida (Par)
This man is from Florence and he talks about his day, birth and marriage to his woman of the Alighieri, and the death during the crusades led by Conrad.Dante address him with the formal “you” at which Beatrice smiles. At Dante’s request he gives an account of the family history and goes on to describe his Florence, in contrast to the corrupt Florence of Dante’s time, discoursing on the changing fortunes of the city and her old families and lamenting the loss of the peace and glory of the earlier period. This man is Dante’s great grandfather he also tells Dante about his future that he will be exiled from Florence and that his place of refuge will be the first great Lombard whose coat of arms is the ladder and the eagle and then it the younger one whose greatness is not yet known. Marco Lambarto (Pur)
God allow him to follow Dante. He claims that he lived in a time when men had better moral values than they do now.Then he proceeds to answer Dante’s other request. He tells the two visitors to go keep going straight and they’ll reach the top of the mountain. Dante ask him why is the world like he says it is. t “the world is blind, and you come from the world.” In other words, Dante can’t possibly understand. “set[s] your appetites in motion.” He blames himself not God

Sordello (Pur)
Virgil and Dante see him seated off by himself, like a lion at rest attentively eyeing the travelers as they approach. He is proud and dignified but very affectionate with Virgil when he learns they are from the same city. The love shown between he and Virgil because of their common homeland triggers a long authorial diatribe against the violence, corruption, and lack of effective leadership up and down the Italian peninsular in Dante's time (6.76-151). Sordello accompanies Dante and Virgil to the Valley of Rulers in the Ante-Purgatory.
