Collecting duct

The most important role is to conserve body fluids

When body must conserve water , posterior pituitary gland secretes ADH

ADH increases the permeability of collecting tubules and distal convulated tubules to more water so more is reabsorbed

This decrease the total volume of urineAlcohol inhibits the release of ADH ,so less water is re-absorbed producing copious amounts of dilute urine

Alcohol inhibits the release of ADH ,so less water is re-absorbed producing copious amounts of dilute urine

Vasa recta

Portion of the peritubular capillary system which enters medulla where solute concentration in interstitium is high

It acts with loop of Henle to concentrate urine by complex mechanism of counter current exchange using urea.

If vasa recta doesn't exist the high concentration of solutes in the medullary would be washed out

Juxtaglomerular apparatus

Regulation of blood pressure

Granule

Macula densa
