Hitler was a good public speaker

Flights over Germany, presidential campaign 1932. He spoke at as many as 5 different cities on the same day. 23 different rallies in 7 days. Drew large crowds, often around 100,000. Gave enthusiastic, exciting and modern speeches. As a result nazi vote grew from 30% in the 1st ballot of 1932 to around 37% in the second ballot, showing how powerful and significant his speeches were.

Economic circumstances 1929 - 32

After the wall street crash In 1929 American loans dried up which largely financed Germany's economic recovery 24-28. Dawes plan recalled and American banks that lent money in the short term demanded the money back. Between 1929 and 32 German exports fell by 61% and industrial production fell by 58%. Workers were made redundant and unemployment rose. In 1932 around 5.6 million people were unemployed. They were only entitled to state benefits for a fixed period, after which they had to apply to local governments who were a lot less generous. Poverty increased and diseases caused by poor nutrition and living conditions increased. People wanted change.

Weimar republics failure to deal with issues caused by the WSC

The German government did little to help Germany recover. They recovered from a minor slump in 1926 without government action so hoped it would happen again. Difficult for a coalition government to make decisions. Scared of a repeat of hyperinflation in 1923 - taking any action may cause this. People wanted change and strong action

Nuremberg rallies

First held in 1923. Lasted from a few days up to a week. Drew hundreds of thousands of party members and spectators. Hitler gave passionate, powerful and enthusiastic speeches. They portrayed him as Germany's saviour. Made Hitler seem like a powerful leader which is what the WR was lacking.

25 point plan

This had a wide appeal. Contained points about race, anti democracy, anti capitalism and nationalism. Anti democracy appealed to many as the WR and constitution had major issues making unpopular and people wanted change. Contained antsemetic points which were fairly popular as Jews were blamed for many of Germany problems at the time. " ...no jew, therefore, may be a member of the nation..."

Nazi organisation

Mileau messaging. They varied propaganda and speeches from area to area allowing them to target different types of people in different areas and tell them what they wanted to hear. More socialist for socialist areas and more nationalist for nationalist areas. Gained more support as more people agreed with what was being said to them. Organised by a series of local areas, or gauge, led by the local leader, Gauleiter.
