Stalin agreed to help America defeat Japan 3 months after the war. Agreed to "Spheres of Influence" Poland would have 'free and democratic' elections. Tensions/conflicting ideologies were mqde apparent. Agreed Poland would be a 'buffer zone' ensuring the 'security' of Russia. Disagreements over reparations in Germany. |

America droppes the atomic bomb, increasing tensions. Poland turns out to be communist, which angers Britain and America. Grand Alliance dissolves, fully exposing the conflicting ideologies (loss of a common enemy - Hitler) A divided, post war europe was established. |

Churchill highlights the divide between East and West. He recognised this would happen during the Tehran conference.

The Long Telegram (February 1946) |
Written by George Kennan (the American Embassy in Moscow) Predicted a life-and-death struggle between democracy and communism. Did not believe in co-existance. Worsened the relationship massively. |
