What was the 1944 GI Bill of Rights and how did it benefit Black Americans?

A bill which provided education grants for ex servicemen, including black servicemen. This meant they could attend college.

What did President Truman do in 1946 regarding the Civil Rights Movement?

He expressed his disgust at the treatment of black veterans. Some historians think that this made him want to help the Civil a Rights Movement?

What was Truman's stance on Civil Rights?

In private he was racist and used offensive language (he came from a mid-western state where segregation was enforced) but as president he tried to improve the status of African Americans.
