The cell

The basic unit of matter in all living organisms. It can live and reproduce on its own

Histology

The study of form and structure of cells and tissue

Mitosis

cell divides into two identical daughter cells with the same number of chromosomes

Type of cell division

Centrosome

Area of microtubule production, it has a pair of centrioles

Centrioles

Made of a ring of nine groups of microtubules, perpendicular to each other

Spindle

Microtubule aggregates that move the chromosomes during mitosis

Centromere

Part of chromosome which link two sister chromatids

Meiosis

Formation of a gamete or Sex cell, no splitting of centromeres, whole chromosomes move to opposite ends

Mitochondrion

Provide energy for the cell

Lysosome

an organelle in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells containing degradative enzymes enclosed in a membrane.

Cytoplasm

the material or protoplasm within a living cell, excluding the nucleus.

Endoplasmic reticulum

a network of membranous tubules within the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell, continuous with the nuclear membrane. It usually has ribosomes attached and is involved in protein and lipid synthesis.

Ribosomes

found in large numbers in the cytoplasm and the rough Endoplasmic reticulum. They bind messenger RNA and transfer RNA to synthesize proteins.
