What did the plague affect economically?
It affected the labour market, patterns of land ownership, the abilty of the country to raise armies, the use of farm land and was partly responsible for the abandoment of many villages.
What were the symptons of bubonic plague?
Exhaustion, headaches, a high temperature and large swellings on the groin, armpits or neck called buboes.
What were the symptons of the pneumonic plague?
It attacked the lungs so people found it painful and difficult to breath, they also coughed up blood.
Which type of plague was the worst and why?
Bubonic plague took a week to kill and sometimes didnt and was harder to contract, oneumonic plague is worse because killed in a couple days and was spread through the air.
What did people think caused the plague?
Judgement from God, the planets, fould air (miasma), jews, nobility, end of the world.
How did doctors ward off disease?
They used strong smelling herbs to counter the foul air and wore a suit which couldve filtered out air-bourne germs.
Why were people more vunerable to the plague in 1348?
Years before there had been a bad harvest due to bad weather, making people weaker and move towns for work which made for overcrowdment. Population was generally increasing = more rats.
How did people people try to prevent/cure plauge in relation to God causing it?
Flagellant groups who whipped themselves to atone for sins and stop God sending plague.
How did people think the weather/nature was causing the plague?
Bad weather made a bad atmosphere which carried disease. That there was a misalignment of the planets. Earthquakes were frequent at this time so this mustve disrupted the atmosphere.
How did people people try to prevent/cure plauge in relation to bad smells causing it?
Bodies were removed and buried quickly without ceremony as it was believed dead bodies spread disease, peopl carried herbs to counteract smells. Or use bad smells like faeces to overpower.
How did people think that people were causing the plague?
Many people though Jews were poisoning Christians by infecting water supplies and that touching people spread it.
How did people people try to prevent/cure plauge in relation to people causing it?
Killing many Jews like in germant to prevent them from spreading plague and poisoning wells, and avoiding contact with others and moving away from towns.
What impact did the Black Death have on culture?
People took up drinking and celebration if there werent religious to live a full life, thick curtains used to keep out bad air, music and art became depressive with such sadness.
What impact did the Black Death have on work?
It made a labour shortage so peasants could demand a higher wage although the King tried to keep them down but that led to the Peasant's Revolt. Living standards improbed as more was availbe because less people making people healthier.
What impact did the Black Death have on society?
People began to challenge Galen and Hippocrates and looked into new ideas of disease and anatomy. People were shocked and upset as whole towns perished. People left wives, houses and jobs to escape to country (animals roamed free). Increased persecution (jews).
What impact did the Black Death have on religion?
Flagellants devoted their lives to God to make up for sins, Priests died as they tended to sick meaning new uneducated Priests + church started to loose power. Increase in medicines increased as people realised praying was doing nothing.

They were so common no one though of them as potentional causes.
