How many people left the Berlin Wall from from 1949 to 1961?

2 1/2 million people left East Germany to West Germany for the west through east Berlin. This was embarrassing for the USSR because it made communism look bad.

On the 10th of November 1958 demanded that the US, France and Britain remove their troops within 6 months to end the presence of the occupying powers and accused them of violating the demilitarization clause of the Potsdam Agreement of 1945.

First the Geneva summit at Camp David in the US. Where they didn't make an agreement but agreed to meet again at Paris 1960 for further discussion where Khrushchev withdrew his six month time limit.

The USSR shot down an American U2 Spy plane that was flying over Russia in 1960 and Eisenhower lied, denying that it was a spy plane. But the USSR produced the pilot (alive) and the plane wreckage as evidence.

A 30-mile long Barrier was built across the city Berlin overnight. The Berlin wall was fortified with barbed wire and machine gun posts, and separated the East Berlin from the West Berlin.
