Why is it important to study geography?
Studying geography helps tell us about a place- what it is like and how it got to be that way. Knowing geography can help tell us about the future of a place, too. Also, it helps us adapt to the place, because we know how past people adapted to it, and we can see how the place has changed; and also so we know about different places and people.
What are the skills and tools used to study a place?
The skills and tools are the five themes of geography, and the information gathered from geologists, archeologists, anthropologists, biologists, and economists.
Can a place have more than one absolute location? Why or why not?
No, a place cannot have more than one absolute location. This is because one place can't have TWO exact locations.
What features can define a region?
The features that can define a region are climate, landforms, culture, economic activity, size, and natural beauty (and other physical features).
What are the strengths and weaknesses of globes rather than maps?
strengths: they are the most accurate "picture" of Earth; they have less distortion than maps; they can show relief; they show the whole Earth.

weaknesses:they are not easy to carry around; globes show the whole Earth all at once, so they must greatly reduce the size of everything, and as a result, it is difficult to use a globe to examine a city; they have distortion.
What are the main types of maps and the information they can present?
special purpose maps: they provide a specific type of information about a place; examples: maps that show about climate;

physical maps: these maps highlight many of the physical features of a place, such as mountains, plains, rivers, and lakes. These are features that can actually be seen on the surface of the Earth.

political maps: these maps show political features such as countries, counties, states, and cities. Unlike a physical map, many of the boundaries shown on political maps do not appear on the surface of the Earth.
What is one problem that all maps share?
distortion and scale
How does the eastern part of Texas differ from the western part?
The eastern part of Texas differs from the western part because it's wetter and lower in elevation, while the western part is drier and higher in elevation.
What makes the Mountains and Basins region unlike the three other regions?
The thing that makes the Mountains and Basins region unlike the three other regions is that this is a region of scattered mountain ranges and flat desert basins, and this is what makes the Mountains and Basins region different from any other region in Texas, because no other region in Texas is like this.
What is the title of the history book?
Lone Star The Story of Texas
