Appropriation Bill
A legislative authorization to spend money for particular purposes.
Bill
A proposed law.
Conservatism
The political view that seeks to preserve the political, economic, and social institutions of society against abrupt change. This view generally opposes most government economic regulation and heavy government spending while favoring low taxes and tradutional values.
Delegate Approach to Representation
An approach to representation in which legislators attempt to reflect the views of thier constituents in a mirror-like fashion.
Filibuster
An attempt to defeat a bill through prolonged debate.
Fiscal Note
An analysis of a legislative measure indicating its cost to state government, if any.

Liberalism

The political view that seeks to change the political, economic, or social institutions of society to advance the development and well-being of the individual. This view beleives that the government should foster social programs by promoting social justice, political equality, and, economic prosperity. This view usually favors government regulation and high levels of spending for social programs. On social issues, such as abortion and pornography regulation, this view tends to support the right of adult free choice against government interference.

Election contests in which the names of the condidates appear on the ballot but not their party affiliations.

An approach to representation in which legislators behave as delegates on issues that are highly visible to their constituents, while acting as trustees on other questions.

A legislative statement of opinion on a certian matter.

A committee that is established for a limited period of time to address a specific problem.
Term Limitation
The movement to restrict the number of terms public officials may serve.
Trustee Approach to Representation
An approach to representation in which legislators do what they beleive is in the best interest of their constituents.
Veto
An action by the cheif of a state or nation refusing to approve a bill passed by the legislature.
