What is tetracycline?

how does it cause stain?
|
binds to calcium ions (calcium orthophosphate) in the teeth.

what colour is the stain?
|
prior to eruption= fluorescent yellow
upon eruption = tetracycline will oxidise causing change to a non-fluorescent brown-grey (over a period of months or years) |

what factors influence the stain?
|
1. stage of tooth mineralisation or calcification and degree of activity of the mineralisation process.
