What is the formula for Carbonate? |

How do you test for sulfates? |
Add a few drops of dilute HCl using a pipette. Then add a few drops barium chloride. A precipitate will form if present. |

Why do we add HCl first to sulfate ions? |
It will get rid of any carbonate ions. |

Add a few drops of dilute nitric acid (HNO3). Followed by silver nitrate (AgNO3). |
