What is learning?
Learning, Conditioning, Group Activity
Learning
Enduring changes in behavior that occurs with experience
Conditioning
firm of associative learning in which a behavior becomes more likely because the organism links that behavior with certain events in it's environment
What is an alarm?
is used to alert you and supposed to pay attention to which is a type of conditioning. Ex doorbell, mail truck, train. condition of things associated.
Classical conditioning
learning occurs when a neutral stimulus becomes associated with a stimulus to which a learner has an automatic response
Pavlov
scientist from Germany. Early pioneer on psychology
Stimulus Generalization
the extension of the association between UCS and CS to include a broad array of similar stimuli. Take something already learned and apply it to something else.
Stimulus Discrimination
occurs when a CR such as salvation) occurs only to the exact stimulus to which it was conditioned
Higher Order Conditioning
take a Cs and becomes a NS
Extinction
When the UCS is no longer paired with the CS. The weakening and disappearance of a conditioned. Bell and salvation no longer work.
Spontaneous Recovery
reappearance of an extinguished response. Comes back again. Dog salivates at bell again
Watson
The Conditioning of Little Albert. Classical conditioning to shape human behavior. Operant Conditioning.
John Garcia
studied taste aversion. Rats-something unpredictable, you will not do it again.
Taste Aversion
Classical conditioning. Don't eat because you are going to get sick.
Operant Conditioning
fear, love, rage. places emphasis on emotion. Nd Skinner. Manipulated consequence.
Reinforcement
Skinner. Most able to occur if there is a reward. An internal or external that increases behavior
Positive Reinforcement
not good or bad. Positive Reinforcement increases the likelihood of a behavior. Getting a ticket.
Negative Reinforcement
Not bad, not good. Removing a stimulus to increase the behavior. Air conditioning.
Primary Reinforcer
are not learned. Food, water, sex
Conditioned Reinforcer
association via classical conditioning. grades, peer approval
Punishment
Positive Punishment. spanking, decreases the behavior
