What is RAM?
Random Access Memory: one of the two types of memory found in the memory unit of the computer. This memory is important because it determines how many programs can be run on a computer at a time.
What are Bits and Bytes?
The binary coding system terms for its characters. Usually expressed in megabytes or gigabytes, this information tells us how much memory a computer is capable of holding. (1 gigabyte= 1,024 megabytes=approx. 1 billion keyboard characters.)
What are the three sections of the Central Processing Unit of a computer and what are their functions?
Control unit (directs the input and output of information,) Arithmetic logic unit (ALU, performs the mathematical calulations required by programs and systems,) Memory (composed of bits, bytes, megabytes, gigabytes; stores temporary and permanent information necessary to keep the computer running.)
What factors affect the speed and efficiency of a processor? (And should thus be considered when making purchases.)
The amount of RAM on the memory unit determines how many programs can function at a time. More RAM is better. The Processor Speed determines how quickly information can be moved in and out of memory. Expressed in megahertz and gigahertz.
What should be considered when buying a printer?
Resolution is important. Measured in dots per inch (dpi) the higher the measurement, the crisper the image.
What makes a good projector?
Brightness is key with a projector. You need a projector with enough lumens to project an image visible in full light. Also, you want one with an affordable replacement bulb.
What is the difference between hardware and software?
Hardware are the actual physical components of the computer (the monitor, tower, keyboard, CPU, etc.) The software are the programs and systems "run" on these hardware to collect, organize and display data/information.
How do you maintain a healthy computer?
Clean it (monitor and tower: damp cloth, keyboard and fan: compressed air) Install and frequently update antivirus protection, frequently deleat cookies and temporary files, back up all falls often.
What should you do if your computer freezes?
Hit control, alt and deleat at the same time. Open up task manager. Try to shut down the problem program. Still nothing? Restart computer.
What are some useful adaptive tools for students with special needs?
alternate keyboard (difference in size and type of input) pointing or typing stick, switches, screen magnifier, anti-glare filters, braille display, joysticks, trackballs... to name a few.
