בראשית ברא אלוהים את השמים ואת הארץ
|
When God began to create heaven and earth
|

Genesis 1:2
|
והארץ היתה תהו ובהו וחשך על פני תהום ורוח אלהים מרחפת על פני המים
|
and the earth being unformed and void, with darkness over the surface of the deep and wind of God sweeping over the water-
|

Genesis 1:3
|
ויאמר אלהים יהי אור ויהי אור
|
God said "Let there be light"; and there was light.
|
|
|
Genesis 1:4
|
וירא אלהים את האור כי טוב ויבדל אלהים בין האור ובין החשך
|
God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness.
|

|
Genesis 1:5
|
ויקרא אלהים לאור יום ולחשך קרא לילה ויהי ערב ויהי בקר יום אחד
|
God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, a first day.
|

Genesis 1:6
|
ויאמר אלהים יהי רקיע בתוך המים ויהי מבדיל בין מים למים
|
God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the water, that it may separate water from water."

Genesis 1:7
|
ויעש אלהים את הרקיע ויבדל בין המים אשר מתחת לרקיע ובין המים אשר מעל לרקיע ויהי כן
|
God made the expanse, and it separated the water which was below the expanse from the water which was above the expanse. And it was so.

Genesis 1:8
|
ויקרא אלהים לרקיע שמים ויהי ערב ויהי בקר יום שני
|
God called the expanse Sky. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.
|

Genesis 1:9
|
ויאמר אלהים יקוו המים מתחת השמים אל מקום אחד ותראה היבשה ויהי כן
|
God said, "Let the water below the sky be gathered into one area, that the dry land may appear." And it was so.
|

Genesis 1:10
|
ויקרא אלהים ליבשה ארץ ולמקוה המים קרא ימים וירא אלהים כי טוב
|
God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering of waters He called Seas. And God saw that this was good.
|

Genesis 1:11
|
ויאמר אלהים תדשא הארץ דשא עשב מזריע זרע עץ פרי עושה פרי למינו אשר זרעו בו על הארץ ויהי כן
|
And God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation: seed-bearing plants, fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it." And it was so.

Genesis 1:12
|
ותוצא הארץ דשא עשב מזריע זרע למינהו ועץ עשה פרי אשר זרעו בו למינהו וירא אלהים כי טוב
|
The earth brought forth vegetation: seed-bearing plants of every kind, and trees of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that this was good.

|
ויהי ערב ויהי בקר יום שלישי
|
And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.
|

Genesis 1:14
|
ויאמר אלהים יהי מארת ברקיע השמים להבדיל בין היום ובין הלילה והיו לאתת ולמועדים ולימים ושנים
|
God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate day from night; they shall serve as signs for the set times - the days and the years;

Genesis 1:15
|
והיו למאורת ברקיע השמים להאיר על הארץ ויהי כן
|
and they shall serve as lights in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the earth." And it was so.

Genesis 1:16
|
ויעש אלהים את שני המארת הגדלים את המאור הגדל לממשלת היום ואת המאור הקטן לממשלת הלילה ואת הכוכבים
|
God made two great lights, the greater light to dominate the day and the lesser light to dominate the night, and the stars.
|

Genesis 1:17
|
ויתן אתם אלהים ברקיע השמים להאיר על הארץ
|
And God set them in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the earth,
|

Genesis 1:18
|
ולמשל ביום ובלילה ולהבדיל בין האור ובין החשך וירא אלהים כי טוב
|
to dominate the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that this was good.
|

Genesis 1:19
|
ויהי ערב ויהי בקר יום רביעי
|
And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.
|

Genesis 1:20
|
ויאמר אלהים ישרצו המים שרץ נפש חיה ועוף יעופף על הארץ על פני רקיע השמים
|
God said, "Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and birds that fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."

Genesis 1:21
|
ויברא אלהים את התנינם הגדלים ואת כל נפש החיה הרמשת אשר שרצו המים למינהם ואת כל עוף כנף למינהו וירא אלהים כי טוב
|
God created the great sea monsters, and all the living creatures of every kind that creep, which the waters brought forth in swarms, and all the winged birds of every kind. And God saw that this was good.

Genesis 1:22
|
ויברך אתם אלהים לאמר פרו ורבו ומלאו את המים בימים והעוף ירב בארץ
|
God blessed them, saying "Be fertile and increase, fill the waters in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth."

Genesis 1:23
|
ויהי ערב ויהי בקר יום חמישי
|
And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.
|

Genesis 1:24
|
ויאמר אלהים תוצא הארץ נפש חיה למינה בהמה ורמש וחיתו ארץ למינה ויהי כן
|
God said, "Let the earth bring forth every kind of living creature: cattle, creeping things, and wild beasts of every kind." And it was so.

Genesis 1:25
|
ויעש אלהים את חית הארץ למינה ואת הבהמה למינה ואת כל רמש האדמה למינהו וירא אלהים כי טוב
|
God made wild beasts of every kind and cattle of every kind, and all kinds of creeping things of the earth. And God saw that this was good.

Genesis 1:26
|
ויאמר אלהים נעשה אדם בצלמנו כדמותנו וירדו בדגת הים ובעוף השמים ובבהמה ובכל הארץ ובכל הרמש הרמש על הארץ
|
And God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. They shall rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the cattle, the whole earth, and all the creeping things that creep on earth."

Genesis 1:27
|
ויברא אלהים את האדם בצלמו בצלם אלהים ברא אתו זכר ונקבה ברא אתם
|
And God created man in His image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Genesis 1:28
|
ויברך אתם אלהים ויאמר להם אלהים פרו ורבו ומלאו את הארץ וכבשה ורדו בדגת הים ובעוף השמים ובכל חיה הרמשת על הארץ
|
God blessed them and God said to them, "Be fertile and increase, fill the earth and master it; and rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and all the living things that creep on earth."

Genesis 1:29
|
ויאמר אלהים הנה נתתי לכם את כל עשב זרע זרע אשר על פני כל הארץ ואת כל העץ אשר בו פרי עץ זרע זרע לכם יהיה לאכלה
|
God said, "See, I give you every seed-bearing plant that is upon all the earth, and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit; they shall be yours for food.
|

Genesis 1:30
|
ולכל חית הארץ ולכל עוף השמים ולכל רומש על הארץ אשר בו נפש חיה את כל ירק עשב לאכלה ויהי כן
|
And to all the animals on land, to all the birds of the sky, and to everything that creeps on earth, in which there is the breath of life, [I give] all the green plants for food." And it was so.

Genesis 1:31
|
וירא אלהים את כל אשר עשה והנה טוב מאד ויהי ערב ויהי בקר יום השישי
|
And God saw all that He had made, and found it very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Genesis 2:1

ויכלו השמים והארץ וכל צבאם
|
The heaven and the earth were finished, and all their array.

Genesis 2:2
|
ויכל אלהים ביום השביעי מלאכתו אשר עשה וישבת ביום השביעי מכל מלאכתו אשר עשה
|
On the seventh day God finished the work that He had been doing, and He ceased on the seventh day from all the work that He had done.

Genesis 2:3
|
ויברך אלהים את יום השביעי ויקדש אתו כי בו שבת מכל מלאכתו אשר ברא אלהים לעשות
|
And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because on it God ceased from all the work of creation that He had done.

Genesis 2:4
|
אלה תולדות השמים והארץ בהבראם ביום עשות יהוה אלהים ארץ ושמים
|
Such is the story of heaven and earth when they were created. When the Lord God made earth and heaven -
|
|
|
Genesis 2:5
|
וכל שיח השדה טרם יהיה בארץ וכל עשב השדה טרם יצמח כי לא המטיר יהוה אלהים על הארץ ואדם אין לעבד את האדמה
|
when no shrub of the field was yet on earth and no grasses of the field had yet sprouted, because the Lord God had not sent rain upon the earth and there was no man to till the soil,

Genesis 2:6
|
אד יעלה מן הארץ והשקה את כל פני האדמה
|
but a flow would well up from the ground and water the whole surface of the earth -
|

Genesis 2:7
|
וייצר יהוה אלהים את האדם עפר מן האדמה ויפח באפיו נשמת חיים ויהי האדם לנפש חיה
|
the Lord God formed man from the dust of the earth. He blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.
|

Genesis 2:8
|
ויטע יהוה אלהים גן בעדן מקדם וישם שם את האדם אשר יצר
|
The Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and placed there the man whom He had formed.
|
|
|
Genesis 2:9
|
ויצמח יהוה אלהים מן האדמה כל עץ נחמד למראה וטוב למאכל ועץ החיים בתוך הגן ועץ הדעת טוב ורע
|
And from the ground the Lord God caused to grow every tree that was pleasing to the sight and good for food, with the tree of life in the middle of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and bad.

Genesis 2:10
|
ונהר יצא מעדן להשקות את הגן ומשם יפרד והיה לארבעה ראשים
|
A river issues from Eden to water the garden, and it then divides and becomes four branches
|

Genesis 2:11
|
שם האחד פישון הוא הסבב את כל ארץ החוילה אשר שם הזהב
|
The name of the first is Pishon, the one that winds through the whole land of Havilah, where the gold is.
|
|
|
Genesis 2:12
|
וזהב הארץ ההוא טוב שם הבדלח ואבן השהם
|
(The gold of that land is good; bdellium is there, and lapis lazuli.)
|
|
|
Genesis 2:13
|
ושם הנהר השני גיחון הוא הסובב את כל ארץ כוש
|
The name of the second river if Gihon, the one that winds through the whole land of Cush.
|
|
|
Genesis 2:14
|
ושם הנהר השלישי חדקל הוא ההלך קדמת אשור והנהר הרביעי הוא פרת
|
The name of the third river is Tigris, the one that flows east of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
|

Genesis 2:15
|
ויקח יהוה אלהים את האדם וינחהו בגן עדן לעבדה ולשמרה
|
The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden, to till it and tend it.
|
|
|
Genesis 2:16
|
ויצו יהוה אלהים על האדם לאמר מכל עץ הגן אכל תאכל
|
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you are free to eat;
|
|
|
Genesis 2:17
|
ומעץ הדעת טוב ורע לא תאכל ממנו כי ביום אכלך ממנו מות תמות
|
but as for the tree of knowledge of good and bad, you must not eat of it; for as soon as you eat of it, you shall die."
|

Genesis 2:18
|
ויאמר יהוה אלהים לא טוב היות האדם לבדו אעשה לו עזר כנגדו
|
The Lord God said, "It is not good for man to be alone; I will make a fitting helper for him."

|
Genesis 2:19
|
ויצר יהוה אלהים מן האדמה כל חית השדה ואת כל עוף השמים ויבא אל האדם לראות מה יקרא לו וכל אשר יקרא לו האדם נפש חיה הוא שמו
|
And the Lord God formed out of the earth all the wild beasts and all the birds of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that would be its name.

Genesis 2:20
|
ויקרא האדם שמות לכל הבהמה ולעוף השמים ולכל חית השדה ולאדם לא מצא עזר כנגדו
|
And the man gave names to all the cattle and to the birds of the sky and to all the wild beats; but for Adam no fitting helper was found.
|

Genesis 2:21
|
ויפל יהוה אלהים תרדמה על האדם ויישן ויקח אחת מצלעתיו ויסגר בשר תחתנה
|
So the Lord God case a deep sleep upon the man; and, while he slept, He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that spot.
|

Genesis 2:22
|
ויבן יהוה אלהים את הצלע אשר לקח מן האדם לאשה ויבאה אל האדם
|
And the Lord God fashioned the rib that He had taken from the man into a woman; and He brought her to the man.
|

Genesis 2:23
|
ויאמר האדם זאת הפעם עצם מעצמי ובשר מבשרי לזאת יקרא אשה כי מאיש לקחה זאת
|
Then the man said, "This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. This one shall be called Woman, for from man she was taken."
|

Genesis 2:24
|
על כן יעזב איש את אביו ואת אמו ודבק באשתו והיו לבשר אחד
|
Hence a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, so that they become one flesh.
|
|
|
Genesis 2:25
|
ויהיו שניהם ערומים האדם ואשתו ולא יתבששו
|
The two of them were naked, that man and his wife, yet they felt no shame.
|
