Amillennialism

The view that there will be no literal thousandyear bodilyreign of Christ on earth prior to the final judgment and the eternal state; onthis view, scriptural references to the millennium in Revelation 20 actuallydescribe the present church age.

Annihilationism

Theteaching that after death unbelievers suffer the penalty of God’s wrath for atime and then are “annihilated, or destroyed, so that they no longer exist.Some forms of this teaching hold that annihilation occurs immediately upondeath.

Conditional immortality

The teaching that God has created people so that they onlyhave immortality (the power to live forever) if they accept Christ asSavior. Under this view, those who donot become Christians will simply cease to exist at death or at the time of thefinal judgment.

Dispensational premillennialism

Another term for “pretribulational premillennialism” the term“dispensation” is used because most proponents of this view wish to maintain aclear distinction between the church and Israel, with whom God deals underdifferent arrangements, or “dispensations.”
Eternal conscious punishment
A description of the nature of punishment in hell, which willbe unending and of which the unbeliever will be fully aware.
Final judgment
The last and ultimate proclamation by Jesus Christ of theeternal destinies of all people which will take place after the millennium andthe rebellion that occurs at the end of it.

Great tribulation

An expression from Matthew 24:21 referring to a period ofgreat hardship and suffering prior to the return of Christ.

Heaven

The place where God most fully makes known his presence tobless. It is in heaven where God most fully reveals his glory, and whereangles, other heavenly creatures, and redeemed saints all worship him.

Hell

A place of eternal conscious punishment for the wicked.

Historic premillennialism

The view that Christ will return to the earth after a periodof great tribulation and then establish a millennial kingdom. At this time believers who have died will beraised from the dead and believers who are alive will receive glorifiedresurrection bodies, and both will reign with Christ on earth for a thousandyears.

Judgment of the nations

In the dispensational premillennial view, a judgement that willcome between the tribulation and the beginning of the millennium, during whichtime nations are judged according to how they have treated the Jewish peopleduring the tribulation.

Midtribulation rapture

A variation of the pretribulational premillennial view inwhich within one species without creating new species.

Millennium

A term that refers to the period of 1,000 years mentioned inRevelation 10:4-5 as the time of the reign of Christ and believers over theearth(from Latin Millennium, “thousand years”).

New hevens and New Earth

Adescription of the entirely renewed creation in which believers will dwellafter the final judgment.

Postmillennialism

The view that Christ will return to the earth after themillennium. In this view, the millenniumis an age of peace and righteousness on the earth, brought about by the progressof the gospel and the growth of the church.

Postribulation rapture

The “ taking up” of believers after the great tribulation tobe with Christ just a few moments prior to his coming to earth with them toreign during the millennial kingdom(or, on the amillennial view, during theeternal state).

Posttribulational premillennialism

Another term for historic premillennialism(or” classicPremillennialism”) This is distinguished from other premillennial views by theidea that Christ will return after the great tribulation.

Premillennialism

A term that includes a variety of views having in common thebelief that Christ will return to the earth before the millennium.

Pretribulation rapture

The “taking up” of believers into heaven secretly duringChrist’s first return prior to the great tribulation.

Pretribulational premillennialism

The view that Christ will return secretly before the greattribulation to call believers to himself, and then again after the tribulationto reign on earth for 1,000 years.

Rapture

The taking up or snatching up ( from Latin rapio”seize,snatch, carry away”) of believers to be with Christ when he returns to theearth.ears.

Universalism

-The Doctrine that all people will ultimately be saved.
