Bacterial name of syphilis. 6500 cases a year in the US. Occurs in 3 stages

Treponema palladium

Grows in local area and spreads to lymph nodes. Small lesion forms at entry site about 3 weeks after infection (chancre). Lesion is painless and lasts 4-6 weeks.

Primary syphilis, treponema palladium

Occurs 2-10 weeks after _____ _____. The bacteria has become systemic, and the bacteria cause lesions on the skin and on mucous membranes throughout the body. Lasts for weeks to months/year and gradually subsides. Can be spread by kissing during this stage.
