Synapse

The connection between a neuron and another cell another neuron, muscle cell, gland cell is called synapse

Presynaptic cell and postsynaptic cell and synaptic cleft

The transmitting neuron is called presynaptic cell.


A receiving cell is called the postsynaptic cell. The gap in between is called synaptic cleft

Electrical signals

Electrical signals arriving at the axon terminals of the presynaptic cell are converted into chemical signals that cross the synapse to produce new electrical signals in the Postsynaptic cell.

The cell producing a signal is called the presynaptic cell
