What is tx for human wound bite?
- requires surgical exploration by ORTHO; don't need rabies shot
What is tx for black widow spider bite?
IV calcium gloconate (may add muscle relaxers)
What is tx for bite with necrotic center/surrounding halo?
Brown recluse spider; give Dabsone helps
- delay excision and skin grafting until full damage can be assessed (up to 1 week)
What is tx for bee sting/anaphylaxis?
Epinephrine 0.3-0.5 ml of 1:1000 and Remove stingers
What is treatment for snakebite?
local wound care including tetanus shot

look for signs of envenomation - local pain, redness, color change - should appear within 30 mins

if no signs - observe for up to 12 hours
if signs - give antivenom - dosage based on amount of venom injected not on size of human - start with 5- only do surgery and fasciotomy in extreme cases
What is tx for dogbite?
If provoked - observe dog for signs of rabies + Tetanus/standard wound care - if near face(near brain) treatment is STARTED and d/c if not proven necessary
What about wild animal?
Try to catch animal - can kill and look in brain to diagnose rabies
-if you cant catch the animal or its near the face you need to start rabies TX (immunoglobulin plus vaccine)
Up to what age is Bow leg normal?
normal up to age 3 - if persists can do surgery
Up to what age is knock knee normal?
between 4-8 years old
Osgood Schlatter?
Osteochondrosis of tibial tubercle
- pain upon paplation of tibial tubercle
- pain with extension of quad

Treat with immobilization of knee in extension cast for 4-6 weeks
Xray showing "sunburst pattern"?
- Osteogenic sarcoma
- 10-25
usually around knee
Xray shows tumor pushing the cortex out and producing perosteal "onion skinning?
Ewing sarcoma
- usually 5-10 - grows in diaphysis
What to do for bone tumor? (primary maligs)
NOTHING beyond xray - do not biopsy- referral to bone tumor specialist
Multiple myeloma
only tumor where xray better than bone scan
Rules for ordering xrays
1) get them 90 degrees to each other
2) ALWAYS get joints above and below
3) may include other bones in same line of force
