Suw engagement zones out

SUW engagement zones designate weapon type and primary responsibility and authority to target and engage threats in a particular area. based on the own-force weapons characteristics. The proper use of engagement zones accelerates SUW engagements and can prevent blue-on-blue incidents.

SEZ - extends from 0 to 2 nm from the center of the unit, formation, HVU, or position determined by the Commander, up to 15 kf AGL (SM-2 fly out).

-Ship has direct targeting information. Largest number of ship's weapons can be employed

-Normally a surface free-fire zone, Close control of aircraft required

DEZ, - extends from 2 to 5 mm; up to 10 kM AGL.

-Primary zone for engagement with helicopters, as well as major caliber guns.

Ship's minor-caliber guns' effective range usually determines the inner boundary

Must apply Stacker, Summit, or Scram in this engagement zone to prevent Helo fratricide

• While FW aircraft may overfly the DEZ, they will not employ inside the DEZ without prior Coordination w/ Maritime Air Controller (MAC).

AEZ - Targets in the AEZ will exceed the max effective range of ship-based guns and sensors

Aircraft will have better targeting information

Harpoon

harpoon is weapon of choice

The target is of patrol boat size or larger. including surfaced submarines in sea states 0 to 3 and frigates or larger ships in higher sea states. It is held on ship radar/electronic warfare support (ES)/sonar, or adequate third-party localization is available

Weather considerations are not severe (e.g., heavy rain/snow and gale force winds

DDG (I and II) - Can carry up to 8

3 phases of flight

-initial phase/ mid course phase / search attack phase .

8 way points max

Last waypoint must be less than 20nm from the target

Salvo timing

Salvo Timing

Ripple - Missiles are fired in series and follow the same flight path. Therefore, missiles will arrive at the target at different times.

• STOT - Simultaneous Time On Top - Missiles are fired at different times and follow separate flight paths. Waypoints are positioned so that all missiles arrive simultaneously. - Usually one shooter

•DTOT - Designated Time On Top - This is a subset of STOT. This timing is just like STOT except the SWG-1A operator enters a clock time into the system All missiles fired will hit simultaneously at that clock time - Usually used with multiple shooters
