1:Atropine

Tx: Bradycardia.


Increases HR, relaxes smooth muscle.




Adverse effects:Mucosa drying, constipation, urinary retention.




NR: Look for Dry Mouth,

2: Bethanechol Chloride `

Tx: Releases urinary sphincter.




Adverse effects: Increases salivation, ABD cramps, sweating, N/V, orthostatic hypotension, bradycardia.




Contra: use with extreme caution in patients with disorders aggravated by GI contractions.




NR: Look for voiding related problems.

3:Donepezil

Tx: Alzheimers.


Increases ACH in brain.




Contra: May aggravate preexisting conditions, specifically Sick Sinus Syndrome.




NR: Look for sleep disorders.

4: Mecamylamine.

TX: Antihypertensive.




NR: Look for paralytic(adymanic) illeus AKA bowel obstruction.



5: Pyredostimine



TX: Myasthemia graves, treatment of nerve gas.


Increases Skeletal Muscle Contractions




NR: Look for increase in amount/frequency during periods of stress(Including mestruation.)

TX: Skeletal muscle relaxant


Used in adjudication with surgical anesthetics.




BB: Should only be used in emergency situations with children.




NR: Look for transient apnea.



7: Tubocurarine

TX: TX: Skeletal muscle relaxant


Used in adjudication with surgical anesthetics.




Adverse: may cause serious bronchospasms.


Contra: Don't use in pt. with acidosis.




NR: Look for sequence: facial + diaphragm muscles -> legs->arms->shoulder girdle ->trunk ->larynx ->hands ->feets ->pharynx.

8: Fexofenadine

Tx: Antihistamine. Treats allergic rhinitis.




Pregancy category C




Similar to Diphehydramine(A 1st gen agent)


NR: Look for antihistamine and patients with hx of dysrhythmias, heart failure, and HTN.

9:Fluticasone

TX: agent for allergic rhinitis. Reduces inflammation in nasal passages. Corticosteroid.

Drug interactions: Black Licorice.

Precautions: not to be used in children under 4.

NR: Look for nosebleeds and bacteria, viral, fungal, or parasitic infections.


10:Psedoephedrine

TX: Decongestant. Vasoconstriction, bronchodialations.


Used in allergic rhinitis, sinus drainage.




NR: Contraindication: Severe HTN, severe CAD, children under 6.


Precautions: BPH, children over 6.

11: Dextromethorphan

TX: Tx of cough. Available OTC.




Contraindications: Children under 2.


Pregnancy category C




NR: look for adminisering antitussive to patients with chronic lung condition.

12: Albuterol

Tx: Bronchodilator.




Inhaled for is D.O.C for acute bronchospasms.




Drug interactions: Beta blockers =? decreased bronchodialation, possible bronchospasms.

NR: Look for Paradoxical bronchospasms and Caffeine intake.

13: ipratropium

TX: Bronchodialator.


Inhalation is D.O.C for bronchospasms of COPD.




Look for Paradoxical Bronchospasms and Glaucoma.

14: Beclomethasone.

Anti Inflammatory.


Contra: Not to be used with active infections.


Precautions: Not for termination of asthma attack.

15: Cromolyn

Tx: Anti Inflammatory


Prevents inflamation


Tx for asthma.


Precaution: Not for acute asthma attacks.

NR:Look for "advise patient to rinse mouth iwth water.

16: Zafirlukast

TX: Asthma prophylaxis.


NR: Advise the patient not to use this drug to terminate an acute asthma attack due to the onset of action(1 wk.)



17: Theophylline

TX: Bronchodilator.


NR: Advise the pt to limit ingestion of food, beverages, and OTC meds containing caffeine.



18: Atorvastatin

TX: Antihyperlipidemic


Decreases LDL, VLDL, and TG.


Pregnancy category X.




NR: Look for cholesterol-lowering diet.



19: Choletyramine

TX antihyperlipidemic.


Binds bile salts. Increases bld cholesterol.




Adverse effects: Gi(constipation, bloating, belching,m nausea.) May increase bld triglycerides.




NR: Looks for the patient must not omit a dose. Oral fluid intake must be high.

20: Nicotinic acid:

TX: Antihyperlipidemic.



21:Gemfibrozil

Tx: Antihyperlipidemic
Decreases serum TGs/other serum levels.
Contraindications: Preexisting gallbladder disease.
NR: Look for bleeding, jaundice, or unexplained muscle pain .

22: Nifedipine.



TX: Antihypertension.


No effect on HR.


NR: Look for grapefruit juice .

23: Verapamil

TX: Antihypertension


Is a Calcium Channel Blocker(CCB)


NR: Look for monitor edema in ankles and feet.

24: Lisinopril



Antihypertensive.




BB: Fetal injury and death may occur when ace inhibitors are taken during pregnancy. when pregnancy is detected, they should be discontinued as soon as possible.




Pregnancy category: C(1st tri) D(2nd and 3rd tri)


NR: Look for "Keep pt. supine if sudden hypotension appears withing 1st 5 hrs of initial drug adminitration.

25: Losartan.

TX: Antihypertensive.




BB: Fetal injury and death may occur when ace inhibitors are taken during pregnancy. when pregnancy is detected, they should be discontinued as soon as possible.




NR: Look for "Pt should be advised to avoid OTC medications for colds, sinus, fever, asthma, or appetite control.

26:Digoxin

TX: Hearty failure.


Spcial considerations: Digitalization


NR: Look for toxicity and underlines children and adults.

27: Furosemide



Tx: Antihypertensive.


NR: look for "dosage adjustment and observe older adults closesly during periods of brisk diuresis.

28: hydrochlorothiazide.



tx: Antihypertensive.




NR: Look for effects may be noticeable in 3-4 days; however, maximal benefits may require 3-4 weeks. Monitor serum potassium levels.

29: Spironolactone

Tx: antihypertensive.


Off label: severe HF.


BB: Produces tumors in lab animals. Uneccessary use of drug should be avoided.




NR: Look for weight the patient under standard conditions be tx begins and daily throughout tx.

30: nabbutik



TX: Renal Failure drug.


Also used as a sweetener. Has laxative effect.




NR: Be alert to the possibility that a rebound increase in inter cranial pressure sometimes occurs about 12 hours after drug administration.

31: Acetazolamide

Tx: Diuretic drug for edma.


NR: Advise pt to consume 1.5 to 2.5 liters of fluid/24 hrs.

32: methyldopa

Tx: Antihypertensive.


NR: Look for D/c the drug if anemia(positive combs test) develops.

33: Hydralazine

Tx: antihypertensive.


Adverse effects: Lupus like syndrome.


NR: Monitor BP and HR closelesly during HTN-e(every 5 min until stabilized, then every 15 min until crisis has passed.

34: Nitroprusside sodium



Drug for HTN-E




D.O.C. For HTN-E.


NR: look for check the drug solution periodically and discard if the color turns dark brown.



35: nitroglycerine

NR: Look for Advise the patient to take the medication 5 to 10 minutes prior to exercise or other ctivity known to trigger anigina attacks.

36: Atenolol

Beta Blocker.


BB: Abrupt discontinuation should be avoided in patients with ischemic heart disease. Doses should be gradually reduced over a 1 to 2 week period. If angina worsens, during the withdrawal period, the drug should be re instituted at least temporarily.




NR: Discontinue Beta Blockers slowly.

37: Heparin

Tx: Anticoagulant.


D.O.C for acute thromboembolisdm.


BB: Epidural or spinal hematomas my occur when heparin are used in pts receiving spinal anesthsias or lumbar punture.


NR: Monitor for signs of bleeding.

38: Lepirudun

Anticoagulant.


No NR.



39: Warfarin

Tx: Anticoagulant.

NR: Assess/monitor pt/inr before initiation of tx and daily thereafter until a maintenance dosage is established.

40: Clopidogrel

Tx: Antiplatelet agent.


NR: Assess current use of anticoagulants and NSAIDs prior to initiating treatment.

41:Abciximab

NR: Monitor lab tests for clotting time every 2 to 4 hours.
