Subcutaneous Mycoses
-enter the body following trauma to the skin

-remain localized to subcutaneous tissue or spread along the lymphatics to the lymph nodes

-affect:
1) lymph nodes
2) bones
3) joints

-these fungi (low-virulence) are normal inhabitants of the soil

-disease takes a long time to develop

-exists as CONIDIUM (= asexual spores) in nature, but as sexual spores inside tissue

-found in soil and on plants (e.g., rose thorns)

-affects lymph nodes

-produces lymph nodules along the lymphatic tracts up the arm
