Define hospice

Provides home, residential, or inpatient care to clients who have terminal diagnosis & is no longer seeking life-prolong care; portion of pallative care


Supports client's emotional, social and, spiritual and medical needs.

Define long term care

Health and support services provided over the course of months/years for people who cannot care for themselves.

Define acute care

Provided for a short time. Intended to diagnose & treat an immediate health issue; provided mainly in hospitals

Define Acute illness

Appears suddenly & generally last less than 3 months. Can be severe.



Example: pneumonia and influenza

Define Subacute care (convalescent)

Serves people with stable conditions who may require complex care.



Example: hip replacement may not go home yet but may need care
