Hennebique, reinforced concrete system: François Hennebique Englishpatent in 1892 for his system which would find wide use in Britain.


Based on plain round bars with fish-tailed ends and stirrups of flat straps, all at thattime being of mild steel.


The bars provided tensile resistance in beams and slabs, andsupplemented the compressive capacity of the concrete in columns and walls.


The stirrups provided shear resistance.
