Ieyasu forced every daimyo
to destroy all of the castles in his territory except for the one where the daimyo actually lived. That way the daimyo could not build up a secret army in a hidden fortress. Ieyasu also forced the daimyo to swear oaths of loyalty to him, and he forced them to move their families to the capital city. Ieyasu gave the samurai new jobs so that they would not fight against him. |
