Setting
where the story takes place, setting affects the action and the characters feelings
conflict
a struggle between the characters or the story, a problem that needs to be solved.
Internal conflict
A struggle with the character that he/she has to face himself/herself. It could deal with thought or feeling.
external conflict
a struggle with the character and the outside world. ie: it could deal with another character, a group of characters or nature.
characters
people, animals or imaginary creatures that take part in the story. The characters behavior effects what happens in the story. Characters may be revealed through their appearance, speech, thoughts and actions.
protagonist
the main character in the story.
antagonist
the force working against the main character or protagonist and part of the main conflict.
Point of View
a writers choice of narrator
1st person point of view
the narrator - a character in the story, using info only the character knows.
3rd person - limited point of view
Is not a character in the story. Limited if he/she tells the thoughts and feelings of ONLY ONE CHARACTER
3rd person omniscient point of view
is not a character in the story. Thoughts and Feelings of ALL CHARACTERS.

A message about life that a writer wants you to understand. Something the writer wants to tell you about life, a complete thought.

style
in literature style is the way something is written, not what is said, but how. A writers tone, sentence structure and choice of words.

Rising action
shows how the conflicts unfolds and becomes the story, builds suspence

the most exciting moment and the turning point, often results in a change for the main character

ties up loose ends and sometimes offers an unexpected twist before the story ends.
plot
series of events in a story, usually a story begins by introducing a main character who has a conflict.
