What is an element?
An entity from which a statistic is taken.
(The beginning of the row)
What is a variable?
A characteristic of an element.
(The top of a column)
What is an observation?
The set of values of the variables for a given element.

(The whole row)
What are descriptive Statistics?
Methods for summarizing and organizing information in a data set.
What are Statistical Inferences?
Methods for estimating and drawing conclusions about a population by using a sample.
What is a Quantitative variable?
A numerical valued statistic that allow arithmetic to happen.
What is a Qualitative Statistic?
A statistic that is classified by an attribute or characteristic.
What is a discrete variable?
A finite or countable number of values, that are only whole numbers. Example number of people, number of blocks.
What is a Quantitative variable?
A numerical valued statistic that allow arithmetic to happen.
What is a continuous variable?
An infinite many of values on a number line. Example GPA, weight, height.
What is a Qualitative Statistic?
A statistic that is classified by an attribute or characteristic.
What are nominal values?
The are only Qualitative. Nominal values are not in any order they are names, labels or categories.
What is a discrete variable?

What is a continuous variable?
An infinite many of values on a number line. Example GPA, weight, height.
What are nominal values?
The are only Qualitative. Nominal values are not in any order they are names, labels or categories.
What is an Ordinal variable?
It is only Qualitative. Can be arranged in a particular order, but cannot have arithmetic done to them.
What is an Interval Variable?
It is only Quantitative. Subtraction can take place with these statistics but there is no natural 0. Example, Years, dates on a calender, Time.
What is a Ratio Variable?
It is only Quantitative Statistics. Division can be done on this data. And there does exist a natural 0. Example income.
What is random sampling?
When every element has a fair chance to get selected.
What is Stratified sampling?
When population data get placed in to small groups. Example Races, Hispanic, Latino, White, Black, Asian.
What is Systematic sampling?
Each element is numbered, sample is done by picking every k element.
What is Cluster sampling?
When populations are scattered in a geographical area, the areas are split into clusters. Example are city block in NYC.
What is Convenience Sampling?
Sampling on what is convenient to the survey personnel.
