In record mode, what is the DEFAULT channel fader?
Large VCA fader.
In record mode, what is the DEFAULT monitor fader?
Small fader.
In record mode, which faders are preferable to use for which path, and how is this accomplished?
Small faders are channel faders; Large Faders are monitor faders. The VCA to monitors button found in the status section swaps the faders.
What is the default signal flow for the processing section?
EQ, Filters, Dynamics.
What does pressing "Ch. Out" accomplish?
It turns on the Dynamics section, and if the EQ is also turned on, the signal flow will be EQ, Filters, Dynamics. (Which is the default)
Is there a button you can press to place the gate after the compressor in signal flow? If so, what is it?
No.
What is the Link button for?
It links the dynamics of one channel strip to the right adjacent channel strip.
What is the range for the release knob on the compressor/ limitor? Is it continuously variable?
.1- 4 seconds; yes.
What is the range for the attack on the compressor/ limiter? How is it accessed? Is it continuously variable?
There is no range. It is accessed via the release knob. It is program specific; When pulled up it is 3ms (fast attack) and when pushed down it is 30 ms (slower attack).
Is there any visual indicator that the compressor/ limiter is working? If so, what is it?
Yes; Yellow and red LEDs.
How is the expander accessed? What is the ratio?
By depressing the gate button. IT is 2:1.
What is the range for the release knob on the expander/ gate? Is it continuously variable?
.1- 4 seconds; yes.
What is the range for the attack on the expander/ gate? How is it accessed? Is it continuously variable?
There is no range. It is accessed via the release knob. It is program specific; When pulled up it is 100us per 40dB (fast attack) and when pushed down it is 1.5 ms per 40dB (slower attack).
Is there any visual indicator that the expander/ gate is working? If so, what is it?
Yes. Green LED lights.
What does the split button do?
It separates the Filters from the EQ and places it in the channel path. If the EQ is in the channel path it will be post- Filters. The filters can NOT be placed pre- EQ in the monitor path.
What signals are accepted in the channel input section (i.e. where are they generated)?
Mic, Line, subgroup.
What signals are accepted in the monitor input section (i.e. where are they generated)?
Tape monitor, group monitor, channel input, pre CH VCA fader, post CH VCA fader.
What are the buttons in the master status section?
Record, Replay Mix, Status Lock, VCA to Mon, Master CH Input Flip.
What does the master ch input flip button do
in mix mode, on channels where the flip button is depressed, it flips the incoming signal from line to mic.
How can you record when in mix mode?
Hit Ready Group/ Ready tape, arm the track, and hit the record button.
What does the float button do?
When depressed on a channel strip, it takes the signal off of the stereo bus and routes it to the routing matrix.
What are two uses for float, and in what status would you be?
Bouncing (record mode) and sub grouping (mix mode).
When using the Channel Output function, what will will result when pressing these buttons: INPUT; INPUT ÷ OUTPUT; OUTPUT.
Input= Pre Processing but after filters if split; Input ÷ Output= Post Processing, pre large fader; Output= Post large fader.
What is an easy way to tell which fader is supposed to feed the routing matrix?
There is a LED at the bottom of the small fader. When lit, the small fader feeds the routing matrix. When no lit, the large fader feeds the routing matrix.
