Airfoil
- Definition & basic design
- terms of an airfoil
Term used for the surfaces of an aircraft that provide lift.

Symmetrical airfoil - equal curvature on the top and bottom surface.
Asymmetrical airfoil - different curvature on the bottom of the wing when compared to the top surface.

Relative Wind
When a glider flies through undisturbed air, relative wind is the forward velocity and is parallel to and opposite of the direction of flight

Is affected by movement of aircraft through air as well as wind sheer.

Angle formed between the relative wind and the chord line of the wing.

You control angle of attach by changing the "pitch attitude" of the aircraft.
