What happened in Dunkirk, France?
When German forces invaded France, the French and British forces retreated to the city of Dunkirk. Due to the fast advance of the German armies, they were low on fuel and had to stop, to allow supplies to reach them. Allied forces used this break in the fighting to evacuate their forces to England, where they would later be used in the D-Day landings.
