1. What major components of the Manipulator Crane have direction and speed controls available at the control console?
Ans. Bridge, Trolley, and Gripper Hoist (fuel mast)
2. Who must give permission before any interlock can be bypassed?
Ans. Refueling SRO
1. When is the chance of fuel damage the greatest?
Ans. When interlocks are bypassed.
2. How is the chance of fuel damage because of handling minimized?
Ans. Operation with interlocks enabled and interlocks are only bypassed with Refueling SRO permission.
1. List the major components of the Refueling Machine. Reactor Vessel Head and internals with the Polar Crane. Fuel assemblies with the Refueling Machine
Ans. Fuel Assembly Gripper, Stationary Mast and Guide Tube, Gripper Hoist, Trolley, and Bridge.
2. What interlocks on the Refueling Machine are related to the Technical Requirements Manual?Gripper, Mast and Guide tube, Hoist, Trolley, Bridge, Electrical controls, Interlocks and Limit switches
Ans. Overload Interlock and Master Overload Interlock. Hoist Overload, Max Overload, and Underload
3. How are the Overload and Underload settings adjusted for different weight fuel assemblies?
Ans. Fuel Selector Switch is selected to the position that corresponds to the type of fuel assembly to be lifted. fuel selector switch on the console
4. What are the bridge, trolley, and hoist speeds in normal operation and in slow speed zones?
Ans. Bridge: 60 / 3 FPM; Trolley: 40 / 3 FPM; Hoist: 21 / 3 FPM Bridge normal 60 FPM; slow speed 3 FPM, Trolley normal 40 FPM; slow speed 3 FPM, Hoist normal 21 FPM; slow speed 3 FPM
5. The Refuel Machine is located over the lower internal storage area in Zone 3. What is required to move the bridge with the gripper not inside the mast?
Ans. The Traverse Interlock prevents bridge or trolley motion when the gripper is not inside the mast and unloaded, this interlock may be bypassed with Refueling SRO permission.
6. The PLC has detected a difference between the two load cells of 95 lbs. What occurs?
Ans. Nothing. A System Fault interlock occurs due to Load Cell comparison error when PLC detects a difference between two load cells is greater than 100 lbs. No effect on operation. Difference greater than 100 lb. would disable bridge, trolley, and hoist motion.
7. The main hoist is loaded and the operator tries to unlatch the gripper. What happens?
Ans. Gripper Unlatch Interlock displays on the Control Console and gripper does not unlatch. Unlatching is also mechanically prevented when hoist is loaded. All motions inhibited due to Gripper Unlatch Interlock.
