1. For what system(s) or component(s) does ESW provide emergency makeup water?
Answer: Component Cooling Water System and the Spent Fuel Pool.
2. How many trains of ESW are provided to supply cooling water for all components that are required for safe shutdown of the plant?
Answer: Two.
1. What is the function of the ESW System? (Obj. 1)
Answer: It provides cooling water to those plant components that require cooling for the safe shutdown of the reactor following an accident. It also provides emergency makeup to the Spent Fuel Pool and the Component Cooling Water System (CCW) and is the backup water supply for the Auxiliary Feedwater System.
2. What are the loads cooled by the ESW System, including any connection used for normal or emergency makeup? (Obj. 2)
Answer: Component Cooling Water (CCW) Heat Exchangers, Containment Air Coolers, Diesel Generator Coolers, Safety Injection Pump Room Coolers, Residual Heat Removal Pump Room Coolers, Component Cooling Water Pump Room Coolers, Centrifugal Charging Pump Room Coolers, Containment Spray Pump Room Coolers, Penetration Room Coolers, Auxiliary Feedwater Pump Room Coolers, Fuel Pool Cooling Pump Room Coolers, Control Room Air Conditioning Condensers, Class IE Switchgear Air Conditioning Condensers, Instrument Air Compressors and After-coolers ('A' or 'B' Train dependent), Auxiliary Feedwater System (LSP with AFAS), Component Cooling Water System Emergency Makeup, Spent Fuel Pool Cooling and Cleanup System Emergency Makeup.
3. What system provides cooling to ESW coolers during normal operation? (Obj.3)
Answer: Service Water System.
4. What are the automatic starts for the ESW Traveling Screens? (Obj. 4)
Answer: ESW pump start and screen wash valve open.
5. What automatically starts backwashing of the Self-Cleaning Strainers? (Obj. 4)
Answer: High DP across the strainer.
6. Upon a Safety Injection Signal, what ESW valves get a closed signal? (Obj. 5)
Answer: The ESW/Service Water cross-connect supply and return valves AND the CCW heat exchanger outlet valves in parallel with the throttled valves.
7. Following a Loss of Off-Site Power, do the CTMT cooler inlet and outlet valves receive an open signal? (Obj. 5)
Answer: No.
8. Do the SW/ESW return cross-connect valves close following a low AFW suction pressure with an automatic AFW start? (Obj. 5)
Answer: No.
9. What conditions automatically starts of the ESW pumps? (Obj. 5)
Answer: SIS and Shutdown Sequencers (20 seconds for the 'A' ESW pump and 25 seconds for the 'B' ESW pump), and low AFW suction pressure with an AFW automatic start signal present.
10. Is there additional time needed for the ESW pumps to start from a Loss of Off-Site Power? (Obj. 5)
Answer: Yes, before the shutdown sequencer operates, the emergency diesel generator must start, come to speed and voltage, and the output breaker closed. This will take no longer than 12 seconds.
11. What is the power supply for the ESW pumps? (Obj. 6)
Answer: NB01 for 'A' ESW pump, NB02 for 'B' ESW pump.
12. What is the power supply for the 480 Volt ESW components in the ESW pump house? (Obj. 6)
Answer: NG05E for 'A' train components, NG06E for 'B' train components.
13. What buses provide power to the 480 Volt ESW components in the Aux, Fuel, and Diesel Buildings? (Obj. 6)
Answer: NG01A, NG01B, NG03C, NG03D, for 'A' train components; NG02A, NG02B, NG04C NG04D, for 'B' train components.
14. Where can ESW bay temperatures be observed? (Obj. 7)
Answer: The operators can check these RTD using NPIS (plant computer). If this is unavailable, a Fluke may be used in the ESW Pump House.
15. What Technical Specification action is required if the Lake Temperature exceeds 90¡F? (Obj. 8)
Answer: Within one hour verify Main lake level >1075 ft mean sea level, and then again every 12 hours. AND Within one hour verify plant inlet temperature of UHS is <94?F, and then again every hour until lake temperature drops below 90?F.
16. If an ESW train becomes inoperable, what other major plant component does this cause to be inoperable, with cascading effects on the operability of multiple components? (Obj. 8)
Answer: The Associated Emergency Diesel Generator.
17. What actions must be taken when the TR is not met for the ESW pump room temperature? (Obj. 8)
Answer: Restore temperatures within limits within 8 hours or immediately initiate actions to determine the operability of the affected equipment.
