This Moscato d'Asti is certainly a unique wine, being a semi-sparkling wine, or a "frizzante." It is noteably sweeter and lighter in both taste and palate feel, with a lower alcohol content of around 8%. It is from the Piedmont region and oozes with ripe peach flavors surrounded by honeysuckle. Makes a terrific apéritif as well as a perfect partner to cheesecake.

Chateau Rieussec 2001
Chateau Rieussec (Sauternes) 2001: This has a glistening, honey-gold hue. The nose is very fine, with a palpable vibrancy, the freshness of oranges and blossom and freshly scraped vanilla pod, intermingled with chalky, minerally botrytis. Immediately apparent on the palate is a beautifully plump texture, its creamy weight infused with honey, mineral and botrytis richness. This has patent intensity, but also has a divine integration and is very finely poised. And it is very, very long. This is remarkable, and has amazing potential for the cellar. I understand completely why this wine has received such accolades, and I look forward to drinking the rest of my case over the ensuing years. From a 2001 Sauternes assessment
Alois Kracher Cuvée Eiswein 2001
Alois Kracher Cuvée Eiswein 2001: Residual sugar 104.6 g/l, acidity 4.9 g/l, ABV 12.5%. Chardonnay 50%, Welschriesling 50%. A glorious nose here, redolent of honey and crystalline fruits. Beautiful texture on the palate, quite grippy and savoury, with firm, powerful acidity. There's a caramelised, char grilled meat character too. Very good indeed. Approachable now, but will be better with some time in bottle. 18/20 (May 2005
Royal Tokaji Wine Company Red Label 2000

Vin doux naturel
a sweet fortified wine, is found in greater quantities in Languedoc-Roussillon, but two appellations exist for the style in the Southern Rhône: Rasteau AOP and Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise AOP. Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise originates in the commune of the same name. The white wine retains its natural grape sugar through mutage: pure grape spirit is added to arrest fermentation, in a proportion of 5-10%. 90% of the appellation’s wine is produced by the local co-operative, the Vignerons de Beaumes-de-Venise. Rasteau vin doux naturel wines may be white or red—or brown—and the appellation stipulates a minimum 90% Grenache. The communes of Rasteau, Cairanne, and Sablet are eligible for the Rasteau appellation. Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise wines are typically fresher and more aromatic, whereas the Rasteau wines show more oxidative and tawny flavors. Rasteau AOP wines may even be rancio, a deliberately oxidative and maderized style in which the wine is left in open barrels, exposed to the ravages of sunlight and temperature for a minimum of two years.
