What runs in the Spinothalamic tract?
Ascending
Pain and Temperature
What are the 2 substracts of the Spinothalamic tract and what do they do?
Neospinothalamic - fast faithful localisation of sharp pain from superficial structures

Paleospinothalamic (BRF) - Slow non-specific dull pain from deep structures
Where does the Spinothalamic tract cross and what is the clinical relevence?
Crosses in the spinal cord at the Ventral White Commissure, thus a hemi section results in loss of pain/temp from the CONTRAlateral side.
What runs in the Dorsal Column tract?
Asending
Tactile and CONSCIOUS Proprioception
What are the 2 subtracts of the Dorsal Column Tract?
Medial Gracile for lower limbs
Lateral Cuneate for upper limbs
Where does the Dorsal Column Tract cross and what is the clinical relevance?
Synapses in the Brainstem, then crosses.
Thus a hemi-section results in loss of Tactile and Conscious Proprioception from the IPSIlateral side.
What runs in the Spinocerebellar tract?
Ascending UNCONSCIOUS proprioception
Where does the Spinocerebellar tract cross and what is the clinical significance?
It doesen't cross. A hemi-section would result in loss of proprioception on the ipsilateral side.
Which tracts provide "Basic Motor control" and what is meant by this?
Vestibulospinal Tract and Reticulospinal Tract.

They provide posture and autonomics.
What is the clinical significance of a hemi-section to the Vestibulospinal or Reticulospianl tracts?
Loss of posture
Body lateropulsion
Small loss of Visceral control
What is found in the Corticospinal tract?
Descending
Skilled Motor
Where does the Corticospinal tract cross and what is the clinical significance?
90% cross in the Pyramid of the Brainstem. Hemi-section would lead to loss of skilled movements.
What is found in the Rubrospinal Tract?
Descending
Skilled motor
Helper to Corticospinal
What spinal root is being tested in the Bicep reflex?
C5 (C6)
What spinal root is being tested in the Brachioradialis reflex?
C6
What spinal root is being tested in the Tricep reflex?
C7
What spinal root is being tested in the Patellar reflex?
L4
What spinal root is being tested in the Achilles reflex?
S1
