Sometimes the difference between "para" and "por" is quite subtle & either one may be used depending on whether the speaker wishes to stress

Ernesto se casó con la viuda PARA apoderarse de su dinero. (Ernesto married the widow TO GET her money.) (b). Motivation: "Por" Ernesto se casaría con la viuda POR apoderarse de su dinero. (Ernesto would marry the widow BECAUSE he wants to get her money.) |

(a). "Luchar PARA": emphasizes the GOAL & implies that the subject not only struggled to achieve something, but succeeded in achieving it. (b). "Luchar POR": focuses on the STRUGGLE & is not concerned with the results. |
