고속도로에서는 항상 안전벨트를 맨다

갑갑한 기분이 들어 안전벨트 매는 걸 안 좋아합니다. 하지만 고속도로를 달릴 때에는 항상 안전벨트를 맵니다. 어느 좌석에 앉던지 안전벨트를 매야만 할 것 같습니다

I don’t like to wear a seatbelt in a car because it feels restricted. However, I always wear a seatbelt when I drive on a highway. I feel like I have to wear it regardless of my seating position.

반드시 후진 주차한다

쇼핑몰 주차장에서 차를 빼려고 하다가 뒤에 지나가는 차를 보지 못하고 거의 받을 뻔했습니다. 그 이후로는 언제나 후진 주차를 합니다. 그렇게 하면 보이지 않는 차로 후진할 위험이 없습니다.

When I tried to come out of the parking lot at the mall, I didn’t see the car passing behind me and almost hit it. Since then, I always park backwards. In that case, I won’t be at risk of reversing into unknown traffic.

오늘 늦잠을 잤습니다. 회사에 지각하고 싶지 않아서 저는 서둘러 나갔습니다. 통 근 시간을 기록하면서 고속도로 위를 달리 고 있는데 경찰차가 저를 도로변으로 세웠습니다. 속도 위반 딱지를 뗐습니다.

I slept in today. I didn’t want to be late for work, so I rushed. When I was cruising down the highway making record time on my commute，a police car pulled me over on the side of the road. I got a speeding ticket.

음주운전은 절대 안 하기로 했다

중학교 동창 하나가 음주운전 차량에 치었다는 소식을 들었습니다. 그 친구가 아직 도 우리 동네에 살고 있고 길에서 자주 마 주치기 때문에 그 소식을 믿을 수가 없었습니다. 저는 절대 음주운전 하지 않겠다고 다시 한 번 다짐했습니다.

I just heard the news that one of my middle school friends got hit by a drunk driver. I couldn’t believe it because he still lives in my neighborhood and I often see him on the street. I decided not to drink and drive ever again.

택시기사가 신호 위반 딱지를 뗐다

오늘 늦게 일어났습니다. 지각하기 싫어서 허겁지겁 나가 택시를 잡았습니다. 택시기사는 빨리 가려다 신호를 어기는 바람에 딱지를 뗐습니다. 많은 사람들이 정지 신호를 무시하고 달립니다. 오늘 아침에 전 운이 없었습니다.

I woke up late today. I didn’t want to be late so I rushed outside and hailed a cab. The cab driver tried to go fast and he got a ticket for running a red light. Many people run red lights. I had no luck this morning.

백미러로 차가 안 보여 큰일 날 뻔했다

차선을 바꿔야겠다고 마음 먹고 저는 왼쪽 방향 지시등을 켜고 왼쪽 거울을 보았습니다. 제 왼편에 차들이 없어서 차선을 바꾸었지만 뒤에 있던 차가 제게 경적을 울렸습니다. 거울로 그 차를 보지 못했기 때문에 저는 기겁을 하며 놀랐습니다.

I decided to change lanes so I turned my left turning signal on and looked at my left mirror. There was no car to my left so I changed lanes but the car behind me honked at me. I freaked because I didn’t see the car through my mirror.

헤드라이트를 켜면 사람이 잘 안 보인다

헤드라이트를 켰을 때 길가에 사람이 있으면 잘 안 보이기에 전 어두울 때 운전하는 것을 좋아하지 않습니다. 지난밤에 집으로 가는 길에 어두워져서 저는 헤드라이트를 켰습니다. 세심하게 신경을 써야 했고 참 피곤했습니다.

I don’t like driving in the dark because when I turned on the headlights, it is hard to see if a person is on the road. On my way back home last night, it got dark so I turned on the headlights. I had to pay careful attention and it was tiring.

배터리가 방전되어 보험회사에 전화해야 했다

키를 꽂고 시동을 거는데 차가 움직이지 않았습니다. 엔진을 빼놓고는 모든 것이 작동되는 것 같았습니다. 자동차 배터리가 방전된 듯해서 저는 자동차 보험회사에 전화를 걸어야만 했습니다.

My car would not start when 11umed the key in my ignition. Everything but the engine seemed to be functioning. It seemed like my car battery was dead so I had to call my car insurance company.

편의점에서 생수를 사고 싶었습니다. 편의점에는 주차장이 없어서 그 바로 앞에 차를 잠깐 세웠습니다. 차를 세우고 내릴 때 뒤에 있던 차가 경적을 울려댔습니다. 다시 차에 타서 그냥 가야 했습니다.

I wanted to get bottled water from a convenience store. The store didn’t have a parking lot so I just pulled over right in front of the store. When I pulled over and got out, the car behind me honked at me. I had to get back into the car and drive away.

은행에서 시간 낭비하는 걸 싫어해서 오전 9시에 은행에 갔습니다. 이미 몇몇 사람들 이 거기 와 있는 것을 보고 놀랐습니다. 전 번호표를 뽑고 기다려야 했습니다.

I don’t like to waste my time at a bank, so I went to the bank at 9 a.m. I was surprised to see some people who were already there. I had to take a number and wait.

ATM을 자주 이용한다

한번은 지하철에서 지갑을 잃어버렸습니다. 그때 현금으로 10만 원이 있었는데 도저히 지갑을 찾을 수가 없었습니다. 그 이 후로 지갑에 체크카드만 들고 다닙니다. 그래서 현금을 뽑으려고 ATM을 자주 이 용합니다.

I once lost my wallet on the subway. I had 100,000 won in cash at that time and I couldn’t find my wallet at all. Since then, I only carry debit cards in my wallet. So I often use an ATM to withdraw some cash.

새 직장에 다니기 시작했을 때, 상사가 제 게 급여를 위해 ABC 은행에다 계좌를 열라고 했습니다. 급여 때문에 제가 사용하던 은행 계좌를 바꿀 수 밖에 없었습니다.

체크카드를 분실했습니다. 저는 바로 은행에 전화를 걸어 체크카드를 분실 신고했습니다. 다음 날 은행에 가서 체크카드를 재 발급 받았습니다. 참 귀찮았습니다.

When I first learned how to ride a bike, it was hard to keep my balance. My dad held my bike from the back and I rode it for an hour. After an hour, my dad would let the bike go without telling me. I thought he was still holding it but he wasn’t. I felt really good.

When I was six years old, my dad got me a bike with training wheels. I was so excited and rode the bike every day. About three months later, my dad took the training wheels off. At first it was not easy to keep balance, but soon, I got it and it was so much fun.

Recently, I bought a secondhand bike. When I was going up a hill, I put the bike into 1st gear but the chain came off. I stopped and put it back on. I rode again a bit further up the hill but then it came off again.

10단 기어 변속이 가능한 내 자전거

제게는 10단 기어 자전거가 있습니다. 그것을 탈 때면 대개 시작할 때 저단 기어에 놓습니다. 속도를 올려가면서 후진 기어를 올립니다. 속력을 줄이거나 오르막길에 도 달하면 기어를 낮추고 그러다 빠른 속도로 달리거나 내리막길을 달리면 기어를 다시 올립니다.

I have a bicycle with 10 gears. When I ride it, I usually put it into a low gear when I start off. I increase my rear gear as I speed up. When I slow down or approach a hill, I put the gear down and then when I ride at high speeds or downhill, I put the gear up again.
