When Thomas Paine wrote "Common Sense" in 1776, many people in America were already speaking out against Parliament. Since this was the case, why was this pamphlet so revolutionary?
Thomas Paine's pamphlet "Common Sense" directly attacked the monarchy and the colonists' allegiance to it. It's significant because it put into words the ideas of revolution and independence that colonists had been unable to verbalize. It moved the colonists from thinking about revolution to actually revolting
Englightenment
The Enlightenment was a period when human beings began looking to reason to explain the world around them and to help improve society. It began in Europe and move to America through writings of people like John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau
John Locke
When James II was overthrown as King of England during the Glorious Revolution in 1689, John Locke wrote."Two Treatises of Government" in defense. This argued against the divine rights of kings, and set forth a social contract where people had natural rights and the government had the duty to protect those rights. If the government failed to do this, the people had the right to revolt.
Why did the Currency Act of 1764 have such a huge economic impact on the colonies?
The Currency Act of 1764 made it illegal for the colonies to create their own paper money.This resulted in a severely deflated value of all existing paper currency and contributed to the huge economoic downturn that existed at the start of the revolution.
Iroquois League
This strong alliance between five tribes forced English fur traders to work with the Indians. The French were also able to make peace with the Iroquois. The Iroquois League became skilled at remaining neutral between the French and British. When the Iroquois sided with the British during the American Revolution, Washington ordered them destroyed, breaking the confederation for good
Analyze Benjamin Franklin's role in the fight for independence
Benjamin Franklin had a huge impact during the move for independence. He represented the colonies in London during the troubles leading up to the revolutionary war and was an important member of the Second Continental Congress signing the Declaration of Independence. During the war, he was ambassador to France where he was instrumental at securing french support and aid.
