How was Brazil's struggle for independence different than other countries?
|
Most South American countries gained independence by defeating Spanish forces in war. Brazil was a colony of Portugal, no Spain, and it became independent without war. The people of Brazil demanded independence from Pedro, son of the Portuguese King, and he granted it. The people then made Pedro emperor of Brazil.
