The Original Qi is closely related to the essence. It is a dynamic and rarefied form of essence having its origin in the kidneys.
Original qi is the basis for kidney-qi and is closely related to all the kidney's functional activities.
Original Qi, like essence, relies on nourishment from the Post-Heaven Essence.
Original Qi dwells between the two kidneys below the umbilicus, at the Gate of Life.
From its origin in between the two kidneys where the Gate of Life resides. Original Qi passes through the TB and spreads to the internal organs and channels.
The Place where the Original Qi stays are the Source Points
The term "source" is an honorary name for the Sanjiao, therefore, the places where it resides are known as the yuan source points.
On the yin channels only, the yuan-source points are the same as the shu-stream points
It is recommended the use of the shu-stream points in the treatment of disorders of the zang.
On the yang channels, the yuan source points are discrete points lying between the shu-stream and jing-river points.
The shu-stream points are the primary points on the yin channels for tonifying and regulating their respective zang.
The yuan source points on the yang channels have a negligible tonifying effect, and indeed have little ability to regulate their related fu.
The principal actions of the yang source points are to dispel various kinds of excess pathogenic factors and to treat disorders along the pathway of their respective channels.
If the five zang are diseased, abnormal reactions will appear at the twelve yuan-source points, by knowing the correspondence of the yuan-source points to the relevant zan, the reaction can be seen, and thus one can identify which of th five zang are injured.
Ex: yang source points: L.I.4- dispels exterior wind pathogen and regulates the whole course of the L.I. Channel yet has negligible action on the Large Intestine Fu.
The dynami qi below the navel, between the kidneys (basis of human life) and the root of the twelve channels is known as the original qi
from its origin in between the kidneys where the gate of life resides. Orginal Qi passes through the TB and spreads to the internal organs and channels. The places where the Original Qi stays are the source points.
The original Qi is the motive force for all physiological activities
It is the basis of kidney-Q
It helps transformation of Gathering Qi into True Qi
It helps transformation of food qi into blood
It comes out at the source points
Ways to treat the original Qi:
Needling the Source points on the 12 channels.
Needling and applying moxa to the points on the directing vessel below the navel, such as Ren7, Ren 6, Ren 5, esp Ren 4.
Needling and applying moxa to the point Du-4 Mingmen, which corresponds to the place from which the original qi originates.
Original Qi is like essence in Qi form
It originates between the 2 kidneys
It is derived from the pre-heaven essence
It is constantly replenished by the post-heaven qi
It is related to the gate of life
It relies on the transporting function of the TB to circulate throughout the body
It circulates in the channels to emerge at the source points
