Jim Nightshade

born October 31, one night after midnight, dark brown hair, green eyes, lives w his mom only, very mature boy, knows too much for his own good, likes action and adventure, dislikes relationships/ being alone

Will Halloway

blond hair, bright blue eyes, lives w mom and dad, wants relationship w dad, innocent and naive follows Jim all over, likes reading, outdoors, dislikes being distant from his father

Charles Halloway

Will's dad, very focused on his old age at the beginning of the book, he is sad because he is so old, as the book continues Charles becomes more accepting and open to whatever life gives him

Mr. Dark

leader of the Cooger and Darks carnival, the Illustrated man, his tattoos allow him to control the freaks, he feeds off of pain and fear

Tom Fury

the lightening rod salesman, becomes the Dwarf in the carnival after being intrigued by the beautiful woman in the empty store

Mr. Cooger

Mr Dark's partner, pretends to be Ms Foley's nephew, he is then on the carnival and Jim and Will accidentally turned him into 230 years old at the end of the book he turns into dust

Mr. Electrico

Mr Cooger after he is hundreds of years old is put into an electric chair as an act in the carnival

Jed

the little boy who Mr Dark turns into in an attempt to trick Charles and Will

Miss Foley

Jim and Will's fifth grade teacher, is afraid of losing her youth as we see when she gets stuck in the mirror maze, she then becomes a young 12 year old girl on the carousel.

Robert

Miss Foley's nephew, actually Mr Cooger disguised as a little boy

Dust Witch

one of the freaks, is able to feel what people are thinking, senses things, the dust witch has the most power of all the freaks, she is affected when Charles laughs and ends up dying of shock or choking on Charles' smile
