What is the difference between rotation and revolution?
The difference between rotation and revolution is that rotation is the spinning of Earth on its axis and rotation is the movement of one object around another.
What is the reason why we still have a leap year?
We still have a leap year because it takes 365 and one- fourth days for the Earth to travel around the sun. Every 4 years we make up for the time we lost by adding 1 more day because one-fourth multiplied by 4 =1 day.
Why is it warmer nearer the equator and colder nearer the poles?
It is warmer near the equator because that is where Earth gets the most direct sunlight. It's colder near the poles beacause that is where the least direct sunlight hits.
What might happen if the Earth did not tilt?
I f the Earth did not tilt we would not have seasons. Temperatures would remain fairly constant year-round and the Earth's axis would be straight up and down compared to its orbit.
When does a solstice take place?
A solstice takes place on the shortest day of the year and the longest day of the year.It is when the sun is farthest north or south from the equator. It happens every June 21st and December 21st.
When does a equinox take place?
An equinox takes place twice each year. As the stem equi meaning equal, equinox means equal day. The day has approximently half sunlight and half darkness. It happens around every March 21st and September 22nd.
What is the difference between a solstice and an equinox?
A solstice is when the sun is farthest north or south from the equator. It occurs twice each year. An equinox is a day with half sunlight and half darkness. The two hemispheres are equally apart from the sun. Therefor, an equal day. An equinox also occurs twice each year.
What is the difference between mass and weight?
The difference between mass and weight is that mass id how much matter is in an object and weight is how much gravity it takes to pull an object toward something (like Earth).
What does Newton's law say about gravity?
Newton's law of universal gravitation says that "every object in the universe attracts every other object".
How is the force of gravity measured?
The force of gravity is measured in newtons. In honor of Isaac Newton.
The force of gravity depend on 2 things
The force of gravity depends on the mass and distance between them
What is inertia?
Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist a change in motion.
How does the moon move?
The moon moves throught spact by revolving around Earth and rotating on its own axis. Inertia and gravity make the moon continue this orbit.
How does the moon appear so bright?
The moon appears so bright beacause it reflects the light from the sun.
What causes the moon's phases?
The moon's phases are caused by changes in the relative positions of the moon, Earth, and sun.
Why does a new moon not appear lit?
A new moon does not appear lit beacause the sun is behind the moon.
What are the two types of eclipses?
The two types of eclipses are solar eclipes and lunar eclipses.
When does a solar eclipse occurs?
A solar eclipse occurs when a new moon blocks your view of the sun.
When does a lunar eclipse occur?
A lunar eclipse occurs at a full moon when Earth is directly between the moon and the sun.
What causes a tide to change?
The difference in how much the moon's gravity pulls on different parts of the Earth is what causes a tide.
What is the difference between a spring tide and a neap tide?
The difference between a spring tide and a neap tide is that the spring tide is when Earth, the sun, and the moon are in a straight line. A neap tide is when the moon is at a right angle to the sun
What are the three features on the moon's surface?
The 3 features on the moon's surface are maria, craters, and highlands.
In what ways is the moon different from the Earth?
The moon is different from the Earth because it has no liquid water or atmosphere, a range of 130 degrees celcius to -180 degrees celsius, slightly smaller than the U.S.A. in diameter, and is one-eighteenth as much mass as Earth. Also, the moon is dry and airless. Compared to Earth, the moon is small and has large vriations in its surface temperature.
