REP: Video Signal Output:
PPI threshold
B-Scan Threshold
Analog PPI video
I/Q phase history video
digital SAR image.
What does the REP control function provide?
Power-up, initialization, calibration, BIT, and mode changes.
Where does the waveform start?
In the REP.
Transmitter
50kW power amplifier. Pulse is between 9.35 and 10.15 GHz. the PRF and pulse width vary depending on the mode selected. Also contains waveguide pressurization
PPS (Programmer Power Supply)
The power supply provides for BITE to monitor status of waveguide pressurization, IFF triggers, antenna gimbals (pitch, roll, yaw, tilt) and reports status to the RSCI.
Antenna
Transmits and receives X-band RF energy for radar applications and L-band RF energy for IFF applications.
IMU
Inertial Measurement Unit - received input from the PPS. Used for SAR and REP ISAR.
Functions of the SDC
Sweep generation
Processes PPI and image video
Range ring/target symbol generation Memory Storage
RSCI
F: Freeze
A: A/C motion Compensation
T: TWS (32 targets)
B: BITE function
A: A-Scan
B: B-Scan
E: Erase
Q: Quadrant Control
RSCMP
Radar Set Computer- used in ISAR to provide ship classification (maintains ship parameter database and overlays.)
VCU
Video Converter Unit- receives five video inputs:
1 Radar composite video
2 A-scan or B-scan radar video
3 Maverick missile video
4 aux channel video and
5 IRDS composite video
Converts the inputs for use on the VTR's. (default, VTR1=Radar Video, VTR3=missile video).
VTR
Video Tape Recorder = receives composite video from AIMS AIC. 8mm hi-res tapes
Interface with GPS
GPS is necessary for SAR PPS. Antenna receives circularly polarized dual-band RF signals transmitted from the BGPs Block II Satellites. Proved to the GPS Pre-Amp for filtering and amplification. Fill port (Brick) required to load the crypto.
Interface with IFF/SIF
Provides overlay for Aircraft/Ship detection of applicable modes.
TWS
will track and label up to 32 simultaneous targets on the PPI, provide a track line to determine target bearing, range, heading anf velocity. Automatically transferred to OASIS TDP for display, modification and transmission.
What component of the APS 135 contains the IMU?
Antenna
This mode is for long range surface search with sea-clutter supression and target brightness enhancement.
Search Mode
Aps-137 has a maximum range of?
200 NM
The APS-137 has a maxiumum range of ___ NM in Periscope mode?
32 NM
This mode is used for moderately low altitude (3,000 ft or lower) and has a max display range of 32NM.
Periscope
Which component is responsible for antenna tilt drive control?
Programmer Power Supply
The primary mode for weather and coastline mapping with the APS-137 is?
Navigate
MOSA calls are required every ___ miles between 30-10 NM and every ____ NM below 10 NM.
5,1
To prevent internal damage, system power shall be set to ____ prior to all power shifts.
OFF
Which component of the APX-76 contains the coding and decoding circuits that enable the interrogation cycle to be completed?
Synchronizer
APX-76 mode/code returns from interrogated station indicate:
Identification, Position in azimuth, and range from interrogating A/C.
What is the warm-up time for the APX-76 system?
1 minute
What does the push to test button on the APX-76 R/T do?
* Checks for proper operation of the SIF by illuminating the fault light on the SIF control box.
* Creates an artificial fault to activate the 3 fault indicator flags on the R/T.
APX-76 R/T GTC and RCVR GATE switches are normally placed in the ____ position.
OFF
Long range display spacing on the APX-76 is used for radar ranges of ________?
Greater than 50 NM.
Short range display spacing on the APX-76 is used for radar ranges of ________?
Under 50 NM.
The inclinometer indicates ______ and is used in conjunction with the radar antenna tilt control.
Aircraft Deck Angle.
WARNING: Do not operate the APS-137 RADAR on the deck unless:
An observer is in the flight station
Which component of the APS-137 performs TWS?
RSCI
The APX-76 Fault light illuminates during challenge when a malfunction has been detected by the bite circuits in the ______
Synchronizer, R/T Unit or the KIR-1C/TSEC Computer
Stand-off ranges for the APS-137 RADAR when operating on the deck are ____ ft. for personnel and _____ ft. for fuel trucks and HERO.
250/250
Five operating modes of the APX-72 IFF:
1 & 2: IFF modes
3: civil Mode A
C: automatic altitude reporting
4: Secure IFF
The Mode 2 selector switches allow selection of _____ Mode 2 codes.
4,096
Transponder Test Set (APX-72 IFF)
Provides self-test and monitor functions for Modes 1,2,3/A and C.
IFF Caution Light (Flight Station) indicates that:
Mode 4 codes have zeroized
The self-test of the KIT-1C has detected a faulty computer or
The transponder is not replying to proper Mode 4 interrogations
The R/T push-to-test button creates:
an artificial fault to activate the three fault indicator flags on the R/T unit.
The TEST selection on the SIF control panel allows:
interrogation and display of own aircraft APX-72 transponder.
APX-76 CAUTIONS:
Do not select a new power output position with power applied to the APX-76 system.
Ensure the reveiver-transmitter rack-mounted blower is operating.
