Social stratification is the ranking of people and the rewards they receive based on social factors, often including wealth, power and/or prestige |

What is a caste system? |
Caste systems are a system in which a person's position may be a position of power and privilege or of disadvantage, but in either case, his or her place is permanently fixed People are born into a caste and it is a lifelong position that is ascribed Caste systems do not allow people to move up and down the ranks |

Class systems represent a form of stratification that allows social mobility |

He suggested that the class structure of western Europe consisted of three groups, the proletariat, the bourgeoisie and the petite bourgeoisie Workers willingly participate in their own exploitation because they have a false consciousness Through class consciousness or understanding of their position workers will unite and benefit from their labour |
